The pin is a massive rivet. I ground the top off one on my old one, bit couldnt get it to shift. (Big hammer, small press, some heat) porb needed a bigger press.
Looked like the reason it wore out was cause it seized into the part it was supposed to turn in and wore out the bit it was supposed to turn in (if that makes sense)
I glued a pices of firmish rubber into the bracket so when closed it it was wedged tight. Stopped the rattle

Yea I went to do mine and had to use a grinder to remove the hinge pin as the smart ass old owner had welded it in to stop it moving....

I removed the whole carrier and took it to local engineer who rebushed the lower hinge, cost $100, well worth it to get that rattle out of ya head. I know it wasn't a diy, but good value for the time spent. I'd make sure the plastic bump stop is adjusted high as possible first, maybe spin the block around.

Its easy to do the door pins, and genuine pins and bushes off Nissan are resonable too. Well worth the $$, eventually fails a Wof for it too. Im prity sure the Pins are same for Safaris too.

Alright I had this same problem. Horrie as quick fix but it works until you decide to fix it properly. Use the nozzle off a silicone tube. Beter yet find a black one. Hammer it in the back inside of the swivel bracket. The good thing is it pushes in and moulds in and around the bracket, and being its a wedge shape it locks in pretty tight.
