Andy Cockroft's 4WD North Island - Still relevant

Post by phil_elvey »

Gidday,
Am looking at purchasing Andy Cockroft's 4WD North Island, which was published in 2000 (not the 2nd edition).

With it being now 12-13 years old, is anyone familiar with it and are the tracks described largely still available/relevant?

Cheers
Phil

Andy Crockroft is his correct name.

Some of the basic details will still be correct, but given the time involved track conditions will have changed. I know some that are now closed for various reasons, others that have become harder and some are even formed roads that you can drive cars.

The Spot-X 4WD book was an updated version done 2-3 years ago.

I've got 2 of Andy's books and the Spot-X book somewhere. Went on a mission a couple of years ago with Andy's book but found some of the tracks just north of Auckland were gated or didn't exist anymore. A few of the spot-x ones were still there.

What part of the country you looking at?

Image is good. Tracks closers and conditions change all the time.

Apologies for the mis-spell

Thanks for the tips, I'll check out both of those books. I'm in the Manawatu, so interested in stuff that's lower-central NI

Cheers
