Found a bit of motivation today and started mounting the cans for the bumpstops......................... knew it would be a pig of a job removing the old bumpstop mounts, and i wasnt wrong
ended up with one side done and the other 3/4 finished.........




Ran a tube sleeve throught the chassis and now I need to track down some schrader valve extensions so i can play with pressures without removing the bumps

Overbraided flexible extensions are easy enough to get, I have some 350mm ones for same reason. I think they're available in lengths from about 150mm.

With the intercooler out, a bit better view of the COP's, their mounting holes line up with the most of the tapper holes in the rocker cover, except for the front one on each side that will need a bracket.............



And these are the common as COP's that I used...........

First big issue to get around with changing to the link and the COP's was that I lost my rev counter, Bit stink really, and even though I prettymuch completly ignore it, I did want to get it working.

Talked to link for a start, they pretty much told me good luck, and that I would need a aftermarket tacho or send it to a specialist to try and get it altered.

Not wanting to pay someone else to sort it ( and a little miffed that a $2000 Computer cant run a factory tacho straight off)
I jumped on the net and started Googling......................................................................................................................................

12hrs later.............................
and a s##tload of dead ends and wild goose chases later I had a plan

The problem is that the link and most other aftermarket ECU's can only fire out a rev output signal of 12v........
Now one way people get around this is to run a booster to get the signal up around the 40 volt spike that the factory used (either from the coil or the ignitor) which sounded a little bit hard at 2 am.

Cool... sweet as, that would be one way to do it.............. but..........
In the case of the hilux 4 cylinder petrol tacho that I run, toyota uses a resistor to DROP the voltage spike back down to 12 volts for the tacho to read.

To test it out, we tried a diesel tacho first, they take their signal from a different source, and it was missing the resistor.
Started the truck up, and Mike taps on the laptop and boom... one working diesel tacho

So armed with about 51% confidence I attacked a spare petrol tacho, pretty much just removed the offending resistor and replaced with a bit of wire, plugged it back in.............. and bam! one working petrol tacho, couple of test revs to 7000 and it works mint.

Thank god for the internet............

When i got the truck back to hamilton, I removed the bit of wire and replaced with a diode that i robbed off the back of another cluster, just to prevent any backfeeding.

Then I did the mod to my actual tacho to make sure it wasnt just a fluke..........



Remove the Tacho



These are the terminals to desolder..........





Basically look on the tacho for the P input, which is marked on the tacho and the board on the back of the cluster, the resistor your lookin for is the first one as it feeds in

Stole one of these from another cluster...........



And soldered it in, make sure you test it so that you install it the right way round..........





And the end result........ one working tacho.....



As usual, I cant say if it will work for you, but i got it to work with two different types of petrol tacho, so hopefully its all good

been there, specified a rev counter in all my toys and never looked at it once in the "heat of the moment"
But since your going there, atleast bonnet mount them

its a bit of a stink feeling pulling apart a engine that had nothing wrong with it

I dont know how old the engine is, and i have no idea how many ks it had done, but despite being thrashed by me and having boost chucked in as well all the internal components were mint as.........

They are a damm good engine

Hope it goes as good when its back together.....................

Check them over well when you get them, the first set i got for Jono's new twin turbo 1uz turned out to be more like 12 to 1

we're now waiting for a set of 8.5's to turn up as well

Cheers for that, i will check when they turn up.
Hopefully they will be sweet as they are a standard piston for ross.
We were gonna decompress the standard pistons, but the price of the ross didn't make it worth doing.
