Jeep jerking while driving: help needed
Jeep jerking while driving: help needed
My jeep wrangler 4.0 (1997 auto) is jerking while accelerating. It's at the shop at the moment... changed out the TPS and it's not that, cleaned the idle control module, not that...
Any ideas or people have similar problems, any solutions? Next step may be buying a new idle control module.
thanks in advance.

Hi there, I suggest you go here http://www.wranglerforum.com/ as there are some guys that know Jeep inside and out. As long as you realize they are mostly Yanks so... well you know.
I have had heaps of help from some of them so give it a try.

Never regret anything you have done, only regret those things you have not done!
Re: Jeep jerking while driving: help needed
may be the top oxygen sensor. Anyone know a place that has them, I see offroadspecialties has it for $188
Re: Jeep jerking while driving: help needed
flick your key on and off 4 times, leave it in acc position after the 4th time. numbers will show up....upstream o2 sensor with come up as 21 in your odometer display. 55 will show once the system has been run through. If your battery has been disco'd recently, 12 will pop up first.

Re: Jeep jerking while driving: help needed
For other readers i had a similar issue on a my XJ - engine cutting several times for a split second when warming up over the first 20mins of driving. Nothing frequent enough to solve or actually stop the engine or see check light code.
Checked USA forums and read suggestion of loom rubbing at back of inlet manifold on firewall.
Sure enough found part of the loom that drops down to tunnel rubbing on an odd bit of manifold casting right at the back of the engine. Conduit was worn through and wiring was just worn enough to see darkness of copper on two of the wires in the loom. Insulated this again and used more conduit as the loom cant be moved easily and haven't noticed the issue again. Might be be a common issue if your reading this and have same symptoms
