Electrical interference

Post by pjb »

Can anyone enlighten me on ways of finding sources of electrical interference? Or recommend somewhere I can take it to deal with it (Auckland)?

I've got 3.5 pajero (non GDI) - seems to me that I'm getting quite a lot of electrical noise going on. Certainly more than it used to, and more that other vehicles I've had.
I usually notice it when there is a weak radio signal on FM, VHF or UHF. Clicking noise, not whining, so I guess it's related to the ignition.

I assume it's probably some ground strap that has broken off or something. Don't really know where to begin.

Cheers!

I am going to throw this one out there...
My car radio had an annoying problem where it would click and chirp randomly...I had the head unit swapped out under warranty...And it still did it.
Then I found out my cell phone was causing it when it latched onto the various cell towers as I was driving.. Also when it got a TXT.. DOH !

I was just going to say that - I sometimes get the cell phone noise through my stereo. Otherwise its the alternator on mine.

op. Have you got chokes fitted to the power supplies to your radios? This should reduce interference
