Conquered the Thompson track!

Post by robssei »

Me and a mate attacked in his near stock 91 isuzu trooper, 31 muds, winch, and alot of recovery gear. Started sunday at midday te aroha side, by ten pm we had reached the bombsite. Left her there and hiked out kati kati side. Returned middy monday and continued. Heavy driving! Those troopers are tough! A tyre came off the bead but was reseated. The bombsite lives up to its reputation, the mud is sticky and deep! A snach block helped the winch haul us out without dying. Its a very tough part, i can see why many get stuck and kill a winch. Got through there and we emerged at 5:30pm. Everyone we asked had said it wasnt possible in that truck, but hell we did it!! Its been a goal for a few years now. Very happy, but wont be doing it anytime soon! Still sore ha. Its an extremely diffucult track, lives up to the hype! The trooper was at its limit. Im glad id done a full service on it, cambelt, main seals the lot! We did track maintainence where possible, clearing drains in bog holes etc. Was an awe trip. 15 hours of hard work!

Cheers mate! stoked we got through! The trooper needs a bit of tlc, torn cv boot and cv loaded with mud, few extra dents, carpet saturated with mud, one headlight full of water. The rydge ryder winch we used performed well! got it on sale for 419 bucks ha. Got submerged in mud and water so will need some tlc to!

Mate they take a beating. It receieved heavy use! Yes its a very hard track, from the top down its fine for awhile till you hit the big holes, then its slow going, well in the near stock trooper anyway!

In previous photo Thats Me and my son, he didnt come for the final day, to tired from the first run plus hike out (well i had to piggy back him out as he got his shoes muddy and had no spares) . That was hard.
