google it mate, or try searches on auszookers.com.au, outerlimits, pirare etx. Not so popular over here but popular in the states, they usually run 1.8 turbo VW diesels, there are kits you can buy for the bellhousing adaptors etc. but yea just do some research there is heaps of info around

That sums it up really , driving a "jeep" ( assume you mean a 410/413 ) mostly onroad and long distance is not the most comfortable thing in the world . You probably have a good reason why you want do do that , I hope , but if not it would be far more practical to go an by a vitara/escudo with a diesel in it . They will be much more comfortable on road , could be tweaked to improve offroad etc . The cost would not be worth a conversion .
Don't get me worng , not knocking the idea . I have owned a 413 with a diesel conversion , loved it but did not install it and a couple of diesel vitara's . If I could find one cheap enough I would have a GV peugeot diesel and auto in my 413 in a heart beat but in the long run its not worth the $$$ .

Re: Diesel engine into suzuki jeep easy swap wanted
some are getting 38 to 40 plus mpg diesel ill put up with the hard ride
with mpg like that anyday

Re: Diesel engine into suzuki jeep easy swap wanted
i think you have missed the point here chap, thought these last few posts would have been obvious to you. I was being nice but if you dont want to get ripped a new arsehole on this thread id stop asking stupid questions. Sure they might get good miles per gallon. The fact that you called it a suzuki jeep shows to these guys that you dont know 5/8ths of f@#$ all about suzukis, jeeps or 4wds. So the conversion will most likely be over your head, and to pay someone to do it would cost you the price of 3 or 4 diesel vitaras. Have you driven a 413 long distance before? i drive mine from wanganui to chch twice a year, you have to really love the truck to put up with it. You have been given some sound advice on this post, "Rotazook" would be one of the 3 or 4 suzuki guys on hear that i would listen to regarding anything they said, you name it with suzukis and he has done it and knows his shit, so listen to the advice or you will get nowhere
Re: Diesel engine into suzuki jeep easy swap wanted
Depends what you think i know people with these little jeeps and they go miles and its no fuss one got updated shocks
hell a bump here and there is not the end of the world
but fuel use is a problem as it seems to go up in price
so 38 to 40plus miles p g
should attact anyone
as it has me
popular in the states these conversions
the USA is a bigger country than new zealand
long distance

Re: Diesel engine into suzuki jeep easy swap wanted
Please guys stop saying the "J"" (jeep) word when talking about the mighty SUZUKI
. Some of us find it offensive
, there is a BIG difference and the two should not be mentioned in the same sentence
. Don't mean to offend any Jeep owners, but they are not my thing and Zooks arn't yours, it's just what we like to drive, (or push in your case
)

As per the above post.. but from the other side of the fence, and nout agin Zuks.
I cant hold my self back any longer....
Phillip.. i'll say this slow......
A SUZUKI IS NOT A JEEP.... A JEEP IS A JEEP.... A JEEP IS NOT A TOYOTA.... A SUZUKI IS A SUZUKI.... A NISSAN IS NOT A SUZUKI..... A NISSAN IS A NISSAN..... A SANGYONG IS A, WELL..... NOT A MITSUBISHI....
ya follow yet, or are bigger letters required?
On the guts of the topic... why try to reinvent the wheel? The zuk (as in Suzuki, NOT MAZDA) community here is pretty switched on to what works and doesnt, whats beneficial and whats a waste of time, whats economical and whats not.... listen to them...

Have you had a look at the Diesel Vitara's?. Most are badged as a Mazda lavante. They run a Mazda Diesel thru all Escudo box and running gear. They are getting a bit old now so the $$ per km probably wont be that good but it would be cheaper to pick up a low km one than do a conversion to some other model.Heres a pic of one I stripped a while ago

Theres some classic Kiwi narrowmindedness going on here. BlakeJ Since you've never lived outside Christchurch or Wanganui you wouldn't know that in dozens of countries, 'jeep' is used to colloquially refer to any 4x4 - maybe because the Willys MB ---> civilian CJ started it all.
I don't know why you have to be so confrontational, he's not asking stupid questions - they're all good questions, its just that you don't have any answers so you're telling him to google it.
Oh, And theres more than 4 guys in the world who have highly modified Suzukis...

realistically you'd be looking at a ball park figure of $5k-10K and personaly I'd be putting my money easily on the $10 to get a professional engine conversion on your jee.... I mean Zook
probably worth grabbing the calculator and doing the math coz after vthe conversion it'll make little difference to the value of the vehicle and it'll take a shit load of milage, diesel and years to actually start making savings... having said that its entirely your decision any 4wd shop in NZ will gladly do the conversion if you can show them the money

Indeed. Far cheaper to either get a vehicle that already suits your requirements, or get a second vehicle. Ask anyone whos built up a vehicle how much its cost them to build, and how much its worth. You'd want to be getting 100mpg or better if doing it just for fuel economys sake...
(ps get a brand new car. they advertise the fuel economys on the windows. sounds like thats your main priority....)
Re: Diesel engine into suzuki jeep easy swap wanted
To me they look like a JEEP so ill call it a JEEP as its a small swb 4x4

comanches, j20s etc are Jeeps (REAL ones, not imagined ones) and not swb in the slightest, so by your rationale 80 series cruisers and safaris are Jeeps as well. Yeah roger that... nah, W R O N G......
but....
another one that knows better. good luck chum

Ive lived in a few different countries thanks mate, the reason i was being confrontational is because i offered some advice, some people on here that know a lot more about suzukis than you offered advice, one of whom has owned a diesel sj413, and he did not take this advice. If hes so keen on doing it that he wont take the advice why even ask? just do it. Go on take the conversion on, piss a whole bunch of money up the wall and have an uncomfortable road vehicle. You just a bit of a douchebag to be honest mate, you should go and help old mate her do his conversion, shit why dont you two go half and half in it. See ya on the tracks
Re: Diesel engine into suzuki jeep easy swap wanted
Sorry Blake I'm not sure I could make that out for all the poor grammar, but I think you called me both a douchebag and your mate in the same sentence?
I never claimed to have Suzuki knowledge, I just think its interesting that rather than answering Philips question - which engine to put in his vehicle - you go off on some rant about how he shouldn't do it and how your way is better. Bit arrogant, no?
And I didn't mean to be rude to Rotazuk or Zukmeista, they have mad skills. Was just trying to communicate that there are multiple ways to skin a cat.
Name calling is a little childish, but I notice your profile says 'Student' so ...

I aggree,
So who cares if this guy calls a suzuki a freaking jeep, i call my terrano a truck, doesnt mean i think its a 18 wheeler. and who cares if he wants to put a diesel into his suzuki?
If he said he wanted to put a diesel in his suzuki for more torque, it would be a completly different story.
You guys should stop this bloody wank fest alltogether.
Thread after thread is getting blocked up by people attacking eachother, really guys? how old are you?
Someone wants advice, so give them the advice, and if they dont do what you told him to do so what? who loses out?
I got told by alot of people that putting a solid axle under my terrano was a bad idea. i took that into consideration, but i still went and did it.
Needless to say there is now alot of people doing it so what is the problem there?
There are some usefull posts, and to them the following does not apply, but to all you childish wanks out there (you know who you are)
The guy asked for advice on gettin a diesel into his suzuki, so keep the topic about that, not whos dick is bigger than whos cause it doesnt matter when ya just being wankers anyway.

Exactly, and the end result is an absolute weapon.
At Uni I helped a friend put a Nissan LD20 (from a Bluebird) in an SJ410. Comparatively revvy diesel and will accept turbocharging.
Challenges I recall:
-oil pan/front diff clearance issue, similar to the LandRover LD28 swap. Space engine up or notch oil pan or lift susp.
-needed a 413 5-speed gearbox for decent cruising speed, adapted using a custom plate, Nissan flywheel drilled/tapped to accept 413 clutch
-engine mounts on chassis didn't need changing, custom brackets engine side
-bigger capacity radiator, can't remember from where but something cheap and easy to find
410 only had drum brakes too, I think he went to front discs after a while. Misc things like throttle linkage and wiring (or lack of with the LD) was straightforward.

I wouldn't do the conversion the reasons Phil mentioned in his first post though.
I built mine to use on the west coast of northland to get to my dive spot/go fishing and have fun.
Economical? ... yes in high range when cruising. Low range? ... not so much but 3rd/4th gear it has sooo much torque it's not funny (actually it's heaps of fun

Ok cool if you are talking about the hard riding yea i can understand that its one of my friends that is wanting to do it think he is also looking at coils at the same time. He will do all the work himself so save the dollars there. Did you use toyot manual box if so attached or the divorced transfer?? may go down the road of 2ct auto from van to suzuki divorsed transfer as an option, keen on other ideas tho

You could probably use a td27 or something like that they arnt too big of an engine, and they have a rear sump so would clear front diff.
proably a bit heavy though, and ya can run a safari transfercase to put the driveshaft on the drivers side. might have to modify sump a little bit but it looks like in most cases youl have too.
I beleive i have seen one on here that had a ld20 in it, and he painted it up to look like a CAT engine?
otherwise theres those little 3cyl diesel from deutz that would fit easily.

Re: Diesel engine into suzuki jeep easy swap wanted
I bought a bush truck with a nissan cd17 diesel in it went really well and the diesel was the best for 4wding. I then straped a turbo on it from a nissan cd20 van and went stright to lux axles and 33s so i never tryed it with standered running gear, the bloody truck went nuts with the turbo even with 33s hit 11psi boost and pulled really well
I then pulled the engine out cos it sized (didnt like running upside down) and the cd17 bolted to factory mounts and just adaped to the sj413 gbox with an adaper useing zuk clutch ect
Easy swap
