Basically I have wanted an truck for a while now but life has never allowed but now I'm in the position where I can afford one.
Trying to kill two birds with one stone and get a truck that I can put the quad in the back so I dont have to buy a trailer as well.
After something thats road legal but still has the mods to allow me to get on & off the beach easily. Diff locks a massive bonus.

WTD Ute for Quad Bike
Re: WTD Ute for Quad Bike
Ignore the deck, just find a ute you like that fits your requirements and if it already has a tray deck, score, if not slap one one. Can pick them up for $50-$500 and the bigger ones that would fit quads sideways (if that is something you want to be able to do) seem to be the least expensive/sought after.
That's how I'd go about it anyway.

Re: WTD Ute for Quad Bike
Thanks for the help guys.
That truck sounds interesting but is it standard or modded for offroad. Their was a few trucks stuck on the exit / entrance to the beach the other day and i dont really want to be one of them so some mods are needed.
Has anyone ever fitted a Quad inside a truck like a Pajero or Surf instead of using a Ute. Just thinking it may fit if I take out the rear seats.

Straight shooting mate. You really need a truck with what people call a locker. You've probably seen the word thrown around here heaps. Its a state of mind that locks stupid ideas out of your head, but keeps the common sense in. Works wonders on the beach

Seriously though, what do you really need for the beach?
A winch? (because we all know you're only ever going to get stuck above high tide mark with heaps of trees around)
Tyre deflators? (hardly vehicle specific)
Racing slicks? (braaaaap!)
A shovel? (doubles as a hangi pit stick)
Taller set of tyres might help a bit but that's not hard on any vehicle.
Obviously up to you but I wouldn't write off a good truck (not necessarily the one mentioned above) because it doesn't have a locker if you're just worried about beach work =)

In wellington there are often four wheel drives stuck in the sand around red rocks more often than not this is due to not engaging hubs and 4wd yep it does happen, too high tyre pressure, and lack of experience. If you do a few trips out with others you will quickly pick up a few ways to keep yourself and your truck safe.

you dont need a modified truck for the beach mate just a bit of boogie up front and some non agressive tyres will get you through anything, agressive tyres, diff locks and all that shit will just dig holes and get you stuck on the enterance/exit to the beach

Re: WTD Ute for Quad Bike
A std ute running std h/t or a/t tyres is all you will need
Plus
A shovel
A very good/reliable electric compressor
A tool to pull valve stems out to drop air quickly
A good rated strechy recovery rope
A bit of attitude to use gas pedal when required
Knowledge on when not to use gas pedal as well

I dont mean seriously tricked out with Winches, ARBs, etc. I just mean lightly modded, upgraded tyres maybe a suspension lift. It would good to have some fun with it in the dunes and also the woods at some point.
There was a Pajero and New Hilux, both with Rear Lockers stuck just the few mins I was there. I just didnt want to be one of the idiots who takes there truck on the beach and cant get off.

Fair enough. I have quite abit of experience in Mud as my Bro ran a offroad site back in the UK. I built an SJ running toyota axles, a turbo diesel engine and 34" Simex. But dont have much experience in sand. Was just worried as everyone else seemed to be getting stuck in the soft sand that have been churned up from previous trucks.
So are people saying that the Front / Rear lockers and articulating suspension are pointless when driving dunes and beaches. They make a massive difference in mud, when I welded the rear diff of the SJ I was shocked by the change.

Obviously don't know what total price it will go for but what do people think of this.

Re: WTD Ute for Quad Bike
Is it certed for lift? where are you gonna put your quad? Tyres to aggressive for regular road use (wear fast, grip average in wet). My 2 cents form pics. Might actually be sweet, but would want to have a very close look.
Toy - Zuk chassis tub, hilux 4.88 axles and transfer, Nissan CA18DE motor and auto trans, sc12 supercharger, 32 10'5 simex, twin motor 8274 custom freespool. Well the parts are all there in various corners of the shed
