I feel really unlucky with my non-turbo Safari. Fuel consumption is dramatic compared with other Safaris, think it needs a good tune or something done with the injectors, but I'm getting 430kms to a tank. It's got a 2" lift + 33" MTs.

How long is a piece of string...

Tell me how many liters in your fuel tank...

Phraza.
The size of a TJ Fuel tank = 72L
Are those K's, speedo K's or GPS K's...?

(72L / 330K's = 21.8L/100K's)
I suspect there speedo K's... :D

My speedo reads 82 when im doing 100 by my GPS (im on 33's)

So... (Please correct me if my math is wrong, i suspect it is.
but...)

330k's /.82 = 402 actual K's
72L / 402K's = 17.9L/100K's
(Assuming you run the tank dry)

Just put the 33's on the back and the 31's on the front, thats what I do for fuel economy, the vehicle thinks it is going downhill all the time. If you turn the fan on full bore it also helps as it forces air out the vents in the rear of the cab creating forward momentum, much like a fire hose, only an air one.

dont forget it is more inclined to push the air over the top than straight into the front, so is going to be more aerodynamic! like a drag car!!!

Whole thread is gold :D

Keep it up boys

I find that parking the wipers half way up the windscreen (like race cars) helps on long trips

Cheers,

20ltr/100 is std for a TJ

even my gts with narrower front wheels gets better economy...

hmm, not only should we run smaller diamater fronts, but also much narrower (again, like a drag car!)

but wait, dont drag cars use like 10 ltrs per run?

goin on that logic, we are all wrong :?

Has anyone tried the airwheel mod?

Image

If you drill angled holes in the back of each tread block of tread, the escaping air propels the tire forward. This assists the power coming from drive train and hence increases efficiency incredibly. Another benefit is that it clears the tread of mud better than any other method yet known. Just got to be careful on letting off the throttle while these are working if you have auto lockers fitted as the wheel can overdrive the diff and cause lockup. It isn't too great a problem as this passes the air power through the drive train onto any other locked up wheels giving additional boost where its needed. It can also cause the engine to over run and is not ideal for autos (same problem as when towing them).

I know some one is going to state the obvious that the tyres are going to loose air, but you also have to fit hoses like the logging trucks have to compensate for the minor air loss. When the Pro guys fit these they use air compressors to keep them going but the average guy like you or I could just tee into NJV6s heater concept and take an air feed from that, Although I haven't tried it too see if it would work. (WARNING: If unsure ask a pro about the compressor idea, I don't want myself or NJV6 to be blamed for your tyres exploding from excess inflation using this home handyman method.)

Obviously, the bigger the tyre the more chunks of tread so the more jets of air.
In summary, Yes, the larger wheel size will reduce the fuel consumption (if you still use any in fact) from your fuel tank. :D

My truck has moved about 10m in the last 3 years and the amount of fuel in the tank has indeed reduced. cough, evaporation.

If I fit smaller wheels will I save fuel?

I imagine you would save fuel with smaller tyres in this here situation as your automobile would be further away from the rays of Ra (the sun) therefore the evaporation rate should be less.
If you were actively using this automobile, the extra gravitational pull, due to the gross mass being closer to the ground, may have a counter productive outcome
If you break it... build it stronger.

If you were to remove the wheels altogether and use 2 trolly jacks to move this excessive distance of 10m over 3 years or 3.333m per year & stored the newspaper that wraps your fish and chips in the truck, the heat from the suns rays and the molecular activity will eventually turn the remaining chip grease into bio diesel, which will inturn start to gain you fuel, increasing economy, this will only work if using a trolly jack with really small wheels :!:

I have being looking into this... Jeep have produced a new model called the Ramjeep. It is much like a Ramjet and can be fitted to most Jeep (not open tops). This will only work with Jeeps, the reasoning for this will be explained. Simply put it uses the open Brayton cycle with the rear of the cabin being used as a divergent subsonic diffuser.

To operate, simply turn on your fan to full and open the back window. Do not turn on your Air Conditioning as you need as much "Free Stream" going into the "inlet" as possible (see diagram 0 - 1)

The naturally occurring combustible gases that emanate from Jeep owners react with the diffused air (diagram 2-3). The open back window acts as a "Nozzle" and is expelled (diagram 4)

Image

The exact fuel saving will depend your speed, the faster you go the higher the efficiency. If you want more fuel efficiency at a lower speed you would need to think about a Scramjeep, but that would be silly.

Due to scientific formula used (MupT) Jeep owners are now confirmed as being "MUPiTs"

Check out the science if you don't believe me
