Newbie help

Post by Jamieyoung »

Thought it was about time I tried some off roading and 4x4 ownership.
Just got a MK1 pajero 1990 swb. Only just in the stages of cleaning her up, servicing etc before I decide on upgrades.
First time today on a bit of sand and I got it stuck and feel like a right idiot. Problem it appears is that 4wd won't engage. When in 4h or 4l the wheel lock light comes on and only the back wheels turn. Anyone tell me where I'm going wrong / what I did wrong?
Probably the first of many newbie questions as. I try this new hobby!!!

Might be worth asking this question in the Mitsubishi sub forum also. - as Fraser said, check if you've got manual or auto hubs!

what i try and do is figure out wher the problem lies 4wd not engageing will be any of three problems 1 transfer case not engageing 2 diff not engageing (prob wont apply to you with auto hubs) 3 hubs, axels or cvs broken

First i jack 1 front wheel and 1 rear wheel off the ground any ones to start with then turn rear wheel while watching drive shafts (in 4wd) both should spin if they do transfer is ok. Spin front wheel check axels are turning freely and driveshaft is spinning if axels not moving usually hubs if every thing is working i swap front wheels and try again, process of elimination
