G16a/G16b

Post by LOLYF »

Ok Suzuki people enlighten a Toyota owner

I've got a vitara here (old mans) with an expired G16a, now i've found a G16a from a Cultus Crescent. Obvious differences are intake and exhaust which I take will be no problem to swap over.

Main Questions are, the one for sale has coil packs...no dissy. Is it as simple as swapping the dissy in or are the heads different?

Will the east west motor have the correct provision for the north south engine mounts?

I guess the main question is...will it work?

also heard the have more horses but it might be a bit of a myth, wiki it. It should work, guys in auszookers put baleno ones in the sierras/sjs all the time. The wiring loom is different tho, but im shure you could tack the coil pack bit of the loom onto the existing one. find the diagrams of the 2 and find the differences. Search on auszookers.com.au, there is heaps of info on baleno conversions

Yeah can't really be bothered rewiring it to work, old man won't notice the 3 extra horses

Really just want to know if i can use the dissy in the coil pack motor.

it won't be just as easy as swapping the the coil packs for the dissy

the blocks should be the same but the dissy housing will be a different orientation due to east/west to north/south engine bay differences .
same with the Thermostat housing and sump/oil pickup .
possibly the water pump as well .

you may just be as to swap these parts from the dead 16a , or it might involve a cam swap or at worse a complete head swap .

Auszookers would be the place to ask , as the g16b is becoming a popular swap in to SJs and samurais.

Altenativly I know where there is a cheap-ish g16a engine for sale , out of a LWB escudo . Was running good before the car was scrapped due to rust .
LR110 ..... LJ50 project

Cheers for that Chris,

Sounds like it might be easier just to stick with a escudo engine.

Have you got any more info on that cheapish one...really want to fix this thing so i can get it off my drive way
