Nissan terrano sensor

Post by Upwego »

Just got this 94 nissan terrano off an old bloke super tidy inside and out seems to be a good runner so far. Had my first play in the mud on nigh on bald road tires the other day just got to milk some more cows for a set of kl71's. had a real good look under the bonnet today and noticed a sensor has snapped off. Attached a picture for you to have a look at. Just wondering what the sensor is for and if its alright to drive with it off in the mean time?

Both coolant temp sensors one for gauge cluster temp (is it working)...an maybe the other is for erg system (correct me if wrong)?...if truck is still running fine I wouldn't personally worry otherwise the temp probe a 2 minute job to change an normally cheap

After glow system. Just checked the manual :mrgreen:
Fwd sensor is for the EGR.

Cheers,
I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!

Centre one is for temp gauge. Other two are EGR, and glow system. I never knew which was which, but Simons just let me know- rear = glow.
Maybe just unplug broken sensor, connect to front sensor and disconnect vacuum lines to stop EGR working. Cheapest fix :lol:

I keep hearing about this EGR thing assume its something to do with exhaust gases and if you take it out of the equation you get better pick up in power.

EGR= Exhaust Gas Return.
When disabled the engine gives a bit more power but the intake manifold stays cleaner. Engine is more responsive to fuel and boost modifications but throws a few more nasties out into the environment.
no doubt there are more reasons but who cares :lol:

Easiest way to disable the EGR with an auto is to follow the tube back from the two activation solenoid valves on the inner right hand gaurd just back from the battery to the pipe work just above the brake booster. Cut this tube and block off on the booster side.
Full EGR deletion is a bit more involved. Removing the tube from exhaust to intake manifold, all actuators and the butterfly valve on the boost cross over pipe.
