How do you do the filters on a TD42 cleanly?
I have just finished pouring an actual concrete floor in my shed (used to be dirt and gravel) and am now faced with having to service the Safari and was hoping someone on hear might have a magic tip on how to remove the oil filters without making a mess on my new floor.
I never used to worry to much with the old floor

Use the neighbours front lawn

If you break it... build it stronger.
Re: How do you do the filters on a TD42 cleanly?
One idea is to make a cardboard drip tray, so oil that drains out of filters runs down cardboard and into catch tray. Then when new filters on, remove card and if you're successful theres no oil spilt on engine to drip off
Or do it on the gravel, then degrease it and wash down before taking into shed. I imagine if its wet before draining then oil won't stick as well and so will wash off easier

Chees, I will give it a go.
Re: How do you do the filters on a TD42 cleanly?
Get a big piece of old carpet or rubber or ply for oil change time. Doesnt matter how hard you try you will always drip some. Use a deflector as others have said also to guide oil down from filters if really keen.

Best thing to protect your nice new concrete floor is to paint it with some special gloss concrete paint. That way if you do spill anything, the paint stops it soaking into the concrete and its real easy to mop up.
Even just painting the area where the tuck will sit should help keep costs down.

There are drip trays on TM for these, but looks like only for the motor that use 2 of the same filters.

I use oil spill mats that we have at work, they do a good job.

Cheers Dave that will save me having to make one hopefully

Re: How do you do the filters on a TD42 cleanly?
I faced the same problem in the weekend,,
Managed to get a plastic bag and rag under the filters - un screwed it and dropped it in. Threw a big rag on the floor and one on top of the diff. Made considerably less mess than it otherwise would have,
Cheers Tom.

Yep the placement of the filters is really good from the point of view that you can easily access them but the mess factor is not a small one. Hopefully I will win the drain tray one on TM otherwise I think I will make one

Yea the one that uses the two different filters is slightly different, I did do one that was fitted to the different filters but it need cutting and grinding to fit.
I only had one little drip last time I did the filters using the tray, saves getting oil over the starter motor and block.
I have a few made up $30 including postage.

Never had an issue with this, just a couple of rags on top of the starter motor took care of it.
On a side note, two different filters??? What motors have that because every time I ring up to get some filters I have the same argument that mine are both the same.

Re: How do you do the filters on a TD42 cleanly?
i just put a tray on the floor with sawdust in it. Then when done go for hoon down gravel road. dust stops oil from dripping off.
Those drip trays sound like a good idea
