Thats light as I thought it was a lot heavier then that

Mine is 1300kg front and 870kg rear winch up front no rear winch.. and I was hoping for around 1500-1800 kg as all it is is a chassis and cab..

Re: Nissan Safari LWB shortened an VG30DETT fitted.
Did lots of crawling around an under the nissan the las few nights to find a spot to fit the electric winch, just so big an lots of moving parts needing most of the available spaces. As i found out the winch needs(take up) lots of room. The only spot was on the front. So i made a big hole. Hmmm more weight on the front axle.
Re: Nissan Safari LWB shortened an VG30DETT fitted.
Bit of a bad start to some more testing.
learnt today that using axles out of a bent housing can cost you dearly in damages as the break off inside brand new arb lockers.
The axles look to be in good condition but those hair line cracks are hard to spot.
wont do that twice.

Re: Nissan Safari LWB shortened an VG30DETT fitted.
just some more updates on build.
had a bit of trouble with a harsh vibration in exhaust on drivers side an couldn't work out if it was turbo intake or exhaust muffler internals . so cut open an found nothing. then decided it needed to have a good hard run to find its weak points an as i was doing this it lost power, boost an produced what looked like dust from the river bed but no it was oil dipping out exhaust pipe with a heavy trail of white smoke. never seen so much smoke in my life. so was a limp out to the road call up friend an tow home. found ceramic exhaust wheel snapped off an went clean out exhaust to never to be found again. now with upgraded turbos the harsh noise has also gone and is a pleasure to drive.

Re: Nissan Safari LWB shortened an VG30DETT fitted.
while i had turbos off i decided to take to the heavily restricted exhaust manifolds. how these motors ever breathed/flowed well i'll never know. few hours on a die grinder fixed that.
Re: Nissan Safari LWB shortened an VG30DETT fitted.
I was doing some wiring up grades an while there decided to run some wires to the dash for engine monitoring, fuel, boost pressure and trans oil temp. also lights for ecu controlling electronic boost an valve timing solenoids.after this a took for a blast to find the ecu timing an boost was not working, ecu said they were operating ok. after going thru the wiring again i found i hadn't hooked up the power wire for these. hooked up, took for a spin an man the difference is unbelievable. now the ecu was controlling the boost i had to play with re stricter jets to bring boost back down to 14psi not 20+psi. good to be able to see how the ecu controls an operates these thing at different revs an temps.
Re: Nissan Safari LWB shortened an VG30DETT fitted.
last week end i drove up to the lakes for an offroad racing event happy with its economy for wat it is. burnt 22litres for 115kms travel up the valley an sitting 100km easily.we set up the track an were allowed to have a play. was very interesting the demands for hard driving and boost. intercoolers get surprisingly hot an ya watch the temp slowly rise lap after lap but auto trans apeared to stay cool.
found the auto ecu gets confused easy in low an hits the rev limited straight away an not changing unless you lift your foot right off then changed then foot back down again. after all that i played with the power an hold buttons, wat a difference with the hold button in. never hit limiter just keep accelerating hard an hardly felt it change a gear. so much to learn all the time.
any way was great fun, truck was mint. never needed the spanners out, loaded back up with camping gear an drive home with no worry's.great to be able to use it properly.

Nice.
I know how you feel, its good to get out there again.

Re: Nissan Safari LWB shortened an VG30DETT fitted.
just stumbled across your build, awesome truck and interesting choice of engine i have had 3 of these engines and they have so much power...What i have learnt after years of owning them is standard turbos don't like much more than 12 psi, main bearing need very clean oil, i changed mine every 3500 - 5000km (piece of mind after 2 rebuilds due to bearing pick up) and as long as they stay cool they will be quite reliable (like most engines).
A guy in auckland called "slashman" (i have contact if you want) is a VG30DETT guru and does ECU mod to make a 350 - 400 hp (stock internals do not take much more)

Re: Nissan Safari LWB shortened an VG30DETT fitted.
This motor i flushed it about 4 times before i started driving it hard as it had ticky lifters an wanted to start running it on good oil.
yes these engine certainly have a lot of pony's for the size motor with a few easy mods. i love it. pretty good to drive round on club trips an camping an not to hard on gas but wen ya need to play with the big boys ya just lay ya foot into it an man things get exciting.
I change the turbos to steel shaft ball bearing types, far more reliable.
And running 14psi now.
Im planing to one day get it to one of those guys like slashman or another guy i heard of Glen at "the Lab" heard hes good. an get it chipped an tuned better. it has a Bliz ecu on it now an thats cranked things up a bit also.
Took it on a fundraiser trip today well over 30 plus truck. she never missed a beat , guna have to get the air con hooked up, gets pretty hot in the back block wen ya have to keep ya windows up to keep the dust out.
good run for it to.

Re: Nissan Safari LWB shortened an VG30DETT fitted.
looks like you had a good day
Re: Nissan Safari LWB shortened an VG30DETT fitted.
Been staring to use more an more off road and was stressed that the big rocks we sometime drive over will end up reducing the volume of my fuel tank. and being a 90L one they hang a bit lower so made a 5mm steel plate under it. now i can drive up riverbeds, steep banks, thru deep ditchs an off steep ledges an not worry.
Re: Nissan Safari LWB shortened an VG30DETT fitted.
thats a mean truck, and you sure that plate is thick enough to protect the tank???
that would almost stop bullets going through it lmao

first vid i was planing with auto switchs to see its affect on power thru the auto an in the end it just come down to normal mode and "show it some pain"
that livens things up.

That sounds AWESOME

Re: Nissan Safari LWB shortened an VG30DETT fitted.
got to see this truck over new years, i would have to say its an awesome truck.
but theres still space under the bonnet for more goodies....
Didnt get to listen to it though...
But boy it looks quick in that vid, my brother owns a vg30dett zx, and that thing was a weapon, till he threw a v8 in it....

Am told that this bog hole was a lot more than appears in video. (most vehicles needing a tow from 3/4way through) Appears you avoided it by flying over it!

HaHa
don't often get a chance to use it an anger an all happens to fast, tach only goes to 6g in truck an rev limiter is 7500 so can never tell.BUT IT WAS FUN for the few seconds,
i need a bit more self control with the power of the little 3L motor, it gets away on me some times. FUN AND Addictive!

Re: Nissan Safari LWB shortened an VG30DETT fitted.
Have been doing a little bit of upgrading.
have now put the Fox 4'' bump stops into the rear and fitted new Radflow 3'' to the front.
Allowing me to bring height down an better articulation without hitting bump stops so soon.
