Yup still dont forget that 22nd. I heard something on the local radio news so put the TV on in our shop. For about an hour almost every customer asked "are they still replaying that earthquake". Nope, this is live, they just had another big one! Most of them joined us in staring in disbelief as the footage and pictures started coming thru

Was staying with the wifes parents 2 years ago, crazy to think about it. myself and the brother in law were removing the remains of 3 chimneys off the 2nd story roof - we started around 10am once we realised they were "down" to roof level in the light of day. Aftershocks didnt even cross the mind, was up since the shakes started in the wee hours. It was a sunny day as what sticks in my mind is I slept like a log in the afternoon sun on the couch from around 2pm

I dont think any of us in Canterbury will forget where we were when the September or February one hit, and alot of us are are still living with the consequences today.

I work with and around alot of people being riped off by insurance firms. my partners family is one 10 years ago they brought a section next to there house to make it a double section. they are now red zoned and only get paid for the one section cause other one dosnt have a house on it

and to make things worse they only get paid out for the damage to there house to be fixed not rebuilt even tho they are red zoned and have to move out.

Move out of our house tomorrow. We are in the infamous east. They start repairs, but still not happy with EQC, they say the cost of repairs amounts to about $38K, Arrow engineers say $235K. A bit of a difference.... :?:

On the 22nd I managed to drive my little Toyota Tercel from the CBD to about 2K from my daughters school to pick her up and then managed to get it across a pretty stuffed bridge on Pages Rd and to about 1.5K from our house before the car in front of us disappeared into a liquefaction hole. I wasn't too pleased to have to wade the rest of the way through the liquefaction as I had sustain lower leg injuries in the city, open wounds and sewage just don't mix.

For most Cantabs it's been a crazy couple of years!

Emergency service workers involved with the quakes have slowly been receiving earthquake citations over the last 6 months for the work on the 22nd of Feb and following, the award is worn on their work shirt.
The dress distinction ribbon is four stripes in the Canterbury colours of red and black, with each stripe representing the efforts of the Fire Service, St John, including the Wellington Free Ambulance, Police and the NZ Defence Force.

On this anniversary firefighters involved are to start wearing theirs, if you see a firefighter wearing one and it has the servimus star in the centre,(pictured) only fireys got citations with the star, and they either were immediate response or were involved with emergency response to the CBD before 7am on the 23rd.

A personal big thanks to you Tim and all the emergency and first response members who unselfishly put there own families and properties problems aside to help others, thanks to the loved ones that did what was necessary at home so that their spouses could spend the time helping others. to all those that voluntarily gave of there time in any capacity another huge thanks. Around our area today the orange traffic cones had flowers in them, a fitting memento of the Canterbury Quakes. Let us not forget and

I love the way the media play this shite. I was at a Certified builders meeting on Wednesday night. 60ish local chippies there who have more brains than the those doing EQR/C work. From those I spoke too, (40ish guys) only 4-5 were busy.
The rebuild in the residential sector is a joke. The money is being choked a long way back up the line....... :evil:

Not trying to take anything away from those who did an amazing job on the day (and I know a lot of the fire circus guys very well), but the trauma goes on for a lot of people long after the event,

The point you've brought up Grant in regards to the money being choked is bigger than people think going from a couple of other builders I know. It's surprising to hear the same story.
If things carry on the way they are going, Christchurch won't get back on it's feet for many years to come. :evil:

Completely agree CHCH recovery is proving to be a long road! The rate were going itll be 10-15 years before we get back on our feet.Im a wood butcher and it seams to me that the money is only released once they have made sure there is maximum return to the feeding companies at the top leaving nothing to the tradies at the bussiness end? I hope CHCH doesnt become a dieing city it had and still has alot going for it!

I've lived when younger next to a 1200 home subdivision and trhat took 20 odd years just to do that.. Im a LBP and I feel for you guys in chch as from what i hear it's the same.. be strong
