Mighty hilux use's a log chained to the spring to replace a broken rear axle to complete a stage.

broken axle or broken diff housing? even with a snapped axle there'd be no need to remove the wheel unless the bearings are shagged aswell.

the axle broke at the circlip. so not much holds them in after that.
they had to run back an pic it up off the track.
