Escudo clutch replacement

Post by Mintie »

Hi guys, half way through my big holiday with the kids the clutch has started to slip sometimes (after some fun in the big dunes of the north). My plan is to try to Nanny it home for the 900ish kms and replace it when I have all my tools etc with me instead of paying labour up here. Anyone got any advice on how to help it to make the trip? Also tips on any tricks to help when I do pull it apart to replace it?

Has anyone used this one before? [url]http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/suzuki/auction-564794117.htm[url]

Anyone have any other suggestions on what to use? 16v 5door 91 escudo.

thanks

This video has some bits which show how to take the gearbox out, including which things to remove and where.

Putting a new clutch in is pretty trivial, pain in the arse is to take the gearbox out. I don't personally know any tricks to get the clutch to slip less, just nana it home as you suggested and get decent run-ups for any hills.

Check your pedal adjustment, you may find you can get just a fraction more out of it. I had a Terrano with a clutch that started to slip, adjusted the pedal free play and managed another 10000km before it did it again. That was good luck and probably the exception to the norm but worth the 5 minutes to check.

Ok I will give the adjustment a go. Any tips on how it should be? None of my cars have ever needed adjustment.

When you buy the clutch make sure you are getting the right size because there are two different sizes of the clutch and all you can really do to stop the slipping is to adjust it but can't say it will last long.
If you don't succeed. Try again with "more revs".

Clutch turned out to be fine, Seems that some radiator fluid has leaked out of the rear pipe from the water pump and dribbled its way along and down near the clutch plates and caused it to slip. Strange.

Now onto the next mission of replacing that pipe....
