Galvanising Hard top

Post by alvis »

Hi guys, has anyone galvanized any of their panels before? I am going to fit my new tigertop to my Fj in the summer months to allow me to restore my hard top and doors etc. I thought if i got the lot acid dipped and galvanized it would be a pretty good insurance policy, especially to treat the steel that i could not get to with paint. I have heard that you can just prime and paint over the galv, is this true?

Ive heard that galvinsing can warp the thinner steel. Yes, galv can be primed and painted. Id think a descent paint would be fine for the outside, and some fish oil for the inside?

if you get it acid dipped they usually put a rust preventive
coating on the panel as well (dipped aswell so it gets to internals)
then do your repairs etc and paint then buy a cavity wax from repco or supercheap and spray all the insides for extra protection....
hope this helps....
