Post by imsohi »

Hi all, So found myself getting fustrated with the hilux being off the road so long with modifications so found myself this truck.

Coil sprung solid axels full disc brakes its a bit short in the wheel base for my liking but would rather that than the long wheel base (personal preferance not a dig) is a bit standard so time for some aftermarket upgrades............

Seen ya (missus actually) playing round in that over at nsn/blenheim funday.
My mate had one and I was surprised how capable it was, even with open front and rear diffs. Is yours the 1kz model?

Sold the 2.4 turbo motor within a week of it being on TM so $1400 in the back pocket and 1 empty engine bay, interesting the differences between surf and prado motors, different powersteering locations & bigger starter.

With 1400 dollars burning in the back pocket i decided it was time to start building the new motor origionaly was going to put a lexus v8 in it but soon changed my mind as i dont want to have to tow it everywhere to get good fuel economy so 1kz with a manual pump is the way. I had a block sitting in the drive way so off to toyota and $1700 later i walked out with all new bits.

Looks like the twin to mine.

If it's not too late now would be a good time to check on engine mount- future PTO shaft clearance if you ever want to put in a winch. IIRC mine runs pretty close.

If it breaks, build it stronger.
If it doesn't break, drive it harder.
