A trippy LSD question

Post by lax2wlg »

I have a rear H233B 31 spline LSD from a 1993 Terrano. I am looking to swap the LSD centre for a 2-spider open unit and reuse the 4.8 gears. Reason is for locker compatibility.

Apparently GQ Patrol front runs this 2-pin open centre that I am looking for.

Been reading a lot on the Patrol sites about compatibility, apparently the ring gear bolt size/pattern changed in about 92.

Attached is pics of the LSD centre and 4.8 ring gear.

Can anyone tell me based on the pics if a 2-pin open centre will fit the 4.8 gears?

Cheers

I had a quick measure up of a Safari front diff, bolts were the same size and about 22mm long, i've played around with about 12 Safari and Terrano diffs swapping bits around and have never had one that didn't bolt up, I have a few open Safari diffs if you need one.

I've played swap a part with a few too, never had any compatibility issues. In the spares collection is 4.8 open, 4.6 LSD both 31 spline. Intention is to put LSD in the 4.8 housing with the matched gear set.
Nothing trippy about that

Cheers,
I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!

I still have that open safari diff I offered to swap with you in your other thread if you are interested.

The c200/r200 also changed, but only the diameter of the bolts, not the pattern. Went from 11-12 (or was it 12-13??)mm diameter on the bolts shank holding crownwheel to nugget (thread is same tho). Is this the same deal as to what changed on the h233?
I've fitted a larger hole crownwheel using the smaller bolts to my silvia with no issues as yet (wanted a ratio change). Donor diff is still in pieces as wouldn't bolt together

Edit-
Just found this info;
- H233 have 10mm ring bolts @ 180mm PCD and H233B have 12mm ring bolts @ 176mm PCD.
- H233 are in MQ rear and are only 31 spline.
- H233B are in GQ front and rear and are 31 and 33 spline.

Interesting cheers, so thats 31 spline front, 33 spline rear?

One thing occurred to me while on patrol4x4, I wonder if there are any minor engineering differences between Aus spec Patrol and JDM spec Safari.

As for the R200, I checked the ring gear bolt holes on the ARB - 12mm. My donor gears are from a 1987 so no doubt will be the smaller ones you mentioned. ARB says it is not as issue, they offer the exact same unit for all C200/R200/R200A diffs.

yea thats 31 spline front, and 33 spline rear for gq's.

we used a safari rear crown and pinion in my terrano diff to get the right ratios, bolted up fine to the terrano center.
