The topomaps show the tracks as they are old paper roads and droving tracks. You just gotta know what your looking at. A little knowledge of the area helps.

If you plan going around Queens Birthday I know the Otago Landrover Club heads over that way every year that weekend. They might be able to help out. Good bunch of guys. Nig

Hey mate, if you end up going for a few days just be prepared for very abrasive mud. On 1 west coast trip we ended up doing brakes on most trucks and an alternator on another. Long story short keep an old set of brake pads in the tool kit for the trip home if need be.

It would be well worth going with the club the first time you go. They often have better land access abilities as well. There is either the landrover club based in Invers or the Trail Blazers based in Gore. Both clubs frequent haast mosts years.

Cheers

As the chaps before me touched on, holla the named clubs and go in with them. Their knowledge in the area is invaluable.

There's no way I would do any tracks around Haast solo. I've found about four/five trucks is the magic number.

Hope you guys have plenty on bars on ya wagons, lots of little wee love taps to be had. The classic surf with no rear bumper would not be a wise choice. Anyway the clubs will help you in this area with how prepared you need to be. Not saying its impossible but its a long way from home if your not prepared.

Would be the best place ive been off road by far!
