Sounds like a good idea to me 8) . Can I assume from the content of your post you have't been up the north side of the ashley from Rangi before :?: This is a good mud play day wth some tight trees to wind through. I take it you will be going up to the Okuku bridge to get out :?: I will see who else I can round up.

What's the minimum vehicle requirements on this trip?

Any idea of how difficult you expect this trip to be?

I have to work early hours of Sun morn  so just keen to get an idea if I am able to make it.

PR wrote:... vehicle requirements and how difficult ...

This trip is typically somewhat of a mudfest, with a few tight squeezes between trees, and some technical sections (slippery bank climbs, rut straddling, traversing a few deep muddy ruts, etc). It is suitable for all abilities assuming there are a couple of experienced 4wd'ers drivers in the group (experience should include snatch recoveries, which are guaranteed).

The terrain demands that all attending vehicles have moderate ground clearance, are shod with good-grip tyres, equipped with rated tow hooks, carry recovery strops, and obey convoy rules. Shineys can expect to earn a few battle scars (minor scratches), and as with any river area trip, a snorkel is cheap insurance.

I have rounded up afew guys stil on for meeting at thwe Ashley bridge just out of Rangi at 12. Who's taking the stock terrano and can they drive? I went through there in my terrano when it was stock with no problems. People will get stuck though and maybe some battle scars as Liethfield said.

The stock standard terrano (missin nissan) will not be coming now as it has developed a #### starter motor that choppy could not fix. :? :? :?

The best track to use runs from Rossiters Road upstream to the Okuku River and then up the Okuku River. The track is in very good condition and there are about 3 bad boggy areas, and standard vehicles will do fine, but may need a tow so as already stated Good tow hooks and there is possibility of panel damage (minimal)
Please however keep out of the actual river bed and open shingle areas, as this is bird nesting time and the Ashley track that I refer to was put in for that reason to keep people out of the river bed.
Please keep to the tracks and have a great day,
