Too much work not enough play..time for 4wd therapy!

Post by 3.5Pajero »

Had a few old mates stop in over the weekend and got about reminiscing times gone by.. weeks spent driving around in the middle of nowhere, hours spent digging trucks out of sand/mud/snow, Good times with good mates.

It was then I realized I have been working my ass off lately! With little to no time for much needed 4wd therapy!

SoO..we have decided to pack up the lil zook ,dust off the thernette and get out there amongst it.

The reason for my post is that it would be awesome if this time around we could break up the routine trip from point A to point B with a stop over at a recommended point of interest.

So if you know of any good spots to have a nosey and are willing to share with a small group of family orientated 4wd enthusiasts that are keen to just get away from it all for a few days then it would be great to hear from you.

A normal extended weekend trip for us these days would include meeting up with a few family/friends in fairly standard but well set up for getting out there 4wds ranging from a couple of Suzuki’s, a Hilux and a Triton + maybe a couple of wildcards and heading out from Whangarei either up to Ahipara, over the Erewhon track and camp out down on the beach. Or out to Dargivalle and down the beach, camping out down at Pouto. Or down to Muriwai and head up into the bombing range/South head.

All great trips and enjoy every second of them, But pretty keen to mix it up a bit, So if you have any suggestions feel free to send me a PM.

Cheers,
Travis

Hi Travis,
Have you heard of The Farm, it's out past Oakura and it's about an hour's drive from town. There is a list of accomodation/meal prices on their website here:http://www.thefarm.co.nz/prices.html It costs $20 a trip for land access also. I haven't been out there for a while so I would be keen for a trip.
Cheers,
Harry.

Sweet, that sounds perfect thanks Harry. I was thinking there must be someone out there with heaps of land that wouldn't mind opening it up to random campers for a fee.
So what’s the deal with The Farm, Do they have designated camping spots or is it a find a spot that looks good kinda’ place? And there wasn't a shred of information on the website about 4wd's - do you know if 4wd's are still ok or is it just for bikes now?
Probably looking at about mid April, so I'll give you a text when we get some dates firmed up.
What’s your mode of transport these days?

Pretty much you just find a spot that looks good haha, the place where the cabins and buildings are is on one side of the road and the tracks are on the other side. Where you enter the start of the tracks there is an airstrip and a barn, I'm sure there would be room somewhere for some tents, when the time gets a bit closer I could go out and have a chat to the guy to arrange stuff. Yeah they don't really advertise about the 4WD access but as far as I know it's still all good, last time I was out there (about 3 months ago) they had a new guy there who is managing the tracks and land access, he was planning on doing heaps of work on the tracks so it would be cool to go and see what he's been up to. I sold the zook, there is pics of my new truck in the
 Daihatsu  section.
