Radio/prs guru help wanted

Post by The WEHI »

Right been looking around cant find any info so ill bother you guys,

I wired my uhf radio in, now i assumed the Aerial needs to use both the internal copper core and the braided outer wires to the internal and external of the plug,

Now heres my issue when i do that i can park almost right next to my mate and get distortion and 3-4 car lengths away ends coverage,

But if i un plug the aerial i get better coverage and if i just use the center solid copper core i get better signal, but still only about a km or so

Any input is welcome

Cheers jordan

Trying to operate a radio without the antenna can damage the transmitter. What type of coaxial cable are you using. Typically the cable has pre installed ends. Can you put up some pictures of the setup.

Just a guess but i suspect you have a short between the screen & centre core.
What sort of aerial is it?
You really want a ground independant aerial.

Have a read of this.

IS this the same as CB where the cable length is critical too?
