I thought they run different ratio diffs. That's how they compensate for the lack of raw horses?
Haven't heard much else though.

Cheers,
I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!

They're about as reliable as the 3L the trans is different to the td42, the diff ratios are normally 4.6 over this side of the ditch, if you can get it cheap enough drive it till it dies then drop a 4.2 an trans into it

RD28T is a good engine. isn't as bad as everyone makes out, problem is it's not a powerhouse of an engine so people turn up boost/fuel and they fail pretty quickly.

Alloy head, timing belt... not an industrial motor like its predecessor the LD28, but not absolute horse sh*t either.

They reckon around 250-300k mark they start to give trouble.

I ran a 2.8 GU for a wee while, and hated it. With an auto box, it was pathetically slow off the mark, and off road lacked any low down power. May be able to get more out of the earlier GQ, as the GU was EFI, so you had to chip the computer to get a little more from it.
Personally, if I were to buy one purely to do an engine swap in at a later date, I'd be sticking to a manual to make driving bearable.

I would love to find one as they are rare, the best part about them is any rb engine will straight bolt in as they use same engine mount positions an interchangeable bell housing, meaning it would only take a weekend to bolt in a big Hp rb30det if that's your thing..or for a more civil approach the non turbo Rb's are cheap as chips an plenty of parts providing good linear power for towing an 4x4

I ran a gu spirit for around 6 years rd2.8 t. It was slow. But whent ok. Defiantly a bit of getting used to. Plant boot and after a couple of seconds it start moving.

Yea I think the 2.5 skyline engin fits.
Wouldn't know what else needs to be converted but it would be interesting Diesal to petrol.

And I am sure the diff ratio are lower.
Latest mod, pin stripes, hit the same branch I did on the way in on the way out.

It's a surprisingly easy transplant to do in the GU

Most of the RD and RB engines are interchangable without much hassle at all. Bolt up including bellhousing, the only real differences bolt up wise are flywheel and clutch variations (other than obviously stronger boxes on the bigger engines. I used an RD28 manual box behind an RB30E in an old skyline

Mostly same as 4.2 but very low on power for a heavy truck. Axels are the same except have the sort after lower diff ratios that are perfect for 35s. Transfer case is the same if think but gear box is weaker than TD42 so if you are changing engine best to change gearbox at this stage

The GU spirit won't run a GQ trans unless you drop it by 50-75mm, as there is a slight difference in the bellhousing .
