95' nissan Mistral LWB, No turn lights/ heater fan stops?
Hi their all,
I have just bought a 1995 Nissan mistral LWB with the td27 motor, lsd rear and automatic. my two problems are listed below-
1)TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS
last night i noticed that the rear drivers side light wasnt working but would sometimes flash while the front and side lights, light up but dimmer than thay should this be. this morning i went to try and fix the drivers side turn signal by frist checking the bulb connections. as i did that with the indacator switch tuned on for the right side, the bulb light up and worked fine, but when screwing the lense back in a minute later, it went back to not going and the front and side lights were dim again.
(*note the hazard lights have not been working the whole time this has been going on)
I could here a relay clicking as i used the turn signal stork and heard the flasher unit going, But now it is totaly dead with no clicking on/ off from flasher unit, relays clicking or any lights at all, and the left side is dead aswell?
Things checked-
fuses
hazzard relay (under bonnet next to brake master cylinder)
globe in rear right side
hazzrd light button connected to wiring harness
stering wheel turn signal stork connected to harness
2) heater blower fan not always going.
as i turn the fan speed switch i can hear a clicking noise like a relay click sound but even with that click sound, it dosn't tend to go and when it works it seems to stay working till i turn off the ignition and next drive again. occasonally it works before driving anywhere. It seems to cut in about 100-300mts after i start driving.
Both problems are really starting to stump me and i just need a fresh set of minds to help me please.
I live in dunsandel so driving into town with know turnning signals is bit dodgey as you could imagine.
you can call me on 0211420934 8am-10pm 7 days cheers, Stephen

Update..
I found the flasher unit under the steering column was burnt and melted. Ok I've had them working by connecting a spare flasher unit, but is was only a two terminal flasher unit not the factory three terminal type. I also pluged in the left hand side rear tail ligth assembly into the right hand side of the harness and the turn signals on the drivers side worked fine. I have rewired the right hand side tail light assembly and had both working with the two post flasher. Note.. Still no hazzard lights.
The next morning we got about a km down road and the drivers side isnt working again but passenger side still works fine? I think its more of a short but cant find where. Got a replacement factory flasher unit and it got hot and started to smell like burnt electrical so out it came before it shit it self.
Really confused now...... Hmmmmmm..

you have a dead short in the flasher/signal harness some where. check the wiring anywhere it passes through panel steel i.e. front gaurds/ firewall back rear quater. lift the carpet ensure it hasn't been damaged etc

Cheers guys,
found that the socket that holds the globe in the tail light assembly had the short so i found another globe holder socket and s/hand flasher and been driving it for the last two hours and the indicators work fine now. As an added bonus, the hazards go too.
.
Now to pull out the dash to find the problem/ "bad earth" in there for the fan. It dose go about 2 minutes after you start driving regardless of how long the motor has been warming up though??? once it starts working, it dosn't do it again until you turn the truck off then the next time its started the driven for a couple of minutes again?
Not to fussed as it dose go, Just on a hot or cold day and the fan stops altogether, with the missus out and about with the baby in the car, "ARRRRRR" So i do want to sort it out at some stage.

Wild stab in the dark. Fan on it's way out. Earlier Terranos are know for the fan giving up. Post 91's had issues with the controller too. Mate had one that only go on flat out, or not at all.

Also, the fan speed control resistors can corrode connections, or burn out when covered in leaves etc. Pretty sure it dosn't need these for top speed thou. Situated in air duct just after fan with 3 or 4 male spade connections for plug
If you break it... build it stronger.

Re: 95' nissan Mistral LWB, No turn lights/ heater fan stops
ok latest on mistral-
The turn signals have been great up until a few days ago. i have done a continuity test and the positive circuit for front, side, and rear turn signals on the right hand side of the truck all have a circuit between the positive and earth. the turn signals on both sides flash fast as well as the hazards. I have checked the circuits and it dose have a problem (earth /ground leakage ) from the front passenger foot well muti plug back, so the problem is under the dash somewhere. disconnected all plugs connections and even the combination switch on the steering column and im still getting and earth leakage problem. Its between steering wheel combo switch muti plug and passenger side front kick panel some where
cant find where the turn signal relay is, (95 mistral or teranno 2) only the flasher unit?
as both sides are flashing faster than normal, im guessing it would be something like the relay as all three circuits (front, side and rear drivers hand side turn signals have an earth leakage problem and the passenger side flashes fast as well as the hazards
P.S. the blower fan is the fault with the fan system, as if you give the blower motor body (under glove box) a tap on the side of the motor, it kicks into life.

if it is flashing faster then normal it will be due to the fact that the circut is not under it's normal load of resistance, a bit like when you blow a bulb the other two will flash at twice the speed. check all the bulbs are the same wattage.
as for the blower fan it shouldn't be two hard or expensive to replace it sounds like the motor brushes are had it.

Yeh bulbs are all correct but it has a short to earth through the positive wires on all three globes on right side of truck. The flasher is getting hot and when it is jiggled around when turn signal on, it stops and starts flashing. This is the second flasher unit now and
It still dose it so there has to be a short some where. Ive checked the entire harness apart from under the dash. With it disconected from the multi plug behind the passenger front kick panel and the short is between that plug and the combo switch on steering column and thats with the combo switch not connected to harness.
I still cant find the turn signal relay. Not even google can help me.
On a positive note, ive bought 12 months ORE membership because im commited to this comunity. Was on here ages ago as hulux-happy. Hi all.
As for the fan, that what i thought so yes that would be a good thing to do. Are the brushes hard to replace in them nissan blower motors?

Ok its off to the auto sparky in the morning.
I still haven't diagnose the fault with the indicators. there is a short still, but the truck turn signals even though both sides are still flashing fast, all globes are correct, and the short is hiding very well. still cant find a turn signal relay, only the flasher unit.
i will update what the auto sparkys find.

Ok, I got the trucks back from the auto sparky.
this is what happened-
The flasher unit was repaired where it got hot and was causing the flasher to flash faster than normal. as for the short, they never found one, so im guessing that while i had the dash out amoung other interior trim pannels, I have moved something and the short isnt happening now?
Anyway two days in now and no blown fuses still so I'll just keep an eye on things and see how it goes.
Cheers all for the advice.
