Toyota High Mount Winch

Post by snotgoblin »

Evening All,

I have a Toyota High Mount 24V on my truck. It is leaking from the seal where the drum goes into the gear case.

Does anyone know where to get parts, or what parts will fit this?

Before you all flame me. I have googled up a storm and had the local Toyota dealer do some research for me and parts for this winch are discontinued and not even available ex Japan.
http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_J_1989_TOYOTA_LAND%20CRUISER_BJ74V-MNX_3802.5.html

Any info appreciated. Thanks.

your best bet would be to get any numbers off the seal and go to your nearest bearing supplier and get a replacement.. if you cant find any numbers pop it out and measure
ID, OD and the thickness then your bearings supplier will be able to match one up for you..

Cheers

Cheers yael..

That is my next move. Kind of wanted to try and get a part before I tore the winch to bits... Must be the aircraft engineer in me, I want to have all the spares ready to got before anything even comes off the truck.

I keep forgetting that doesn't work so good with my truck.

It takes all the fun and excitement out of doing things if you have all the parts there ready to go before you start stripping things down

I think it's buggered - Drop it off at the Control Tower and I'll get rid of it for you...

Seriously - take it to Craigs 4WD & Marine in Sutherland Tce if you have any doubts - but the guys at the Bearing & Accessory Centre in Nelson St will be able to match up the old bearings

I had the same issue with my 10,000 Warn made in 75' spoke to warn, they were really helpful, but no one knew how to assemble it, only an exploded parts diagram left on file (winch ceased production way before the digital age)

we had no choice but to dismantle and its never been right since :-(

I have got Toyota low mount winch parts from Toyota. It might be useful to ask your local Toyota dealer. Sometimes the parts are in NZ and are available overnight.

I popped into local Toyota dealer the other week. The seal I figure is leaking is discontinued. None in NZ and not available ex Japan either.

I think some may be available online ex Europe or the US though. Failing that rip it out and attack the seals with the calipers and hope the local bearing centre can help.
