Re: 1969 Patrol G60
Machined up new steel bushes for leaf spring shackles. There were tired nolathane ones in the rear, and after reading in manual that stock ones were steel , Decided to make some. OD is 22mm, ID is 16mm, lenth is 56.5mm. Fitted nicely with new spacers. i used conical spacers so they had less contact area with bush and shackle. They are a press fit on spring and mount, and a loose fit on shackle.
New bushes

old versus new (fronts were still origional steel)

fitted on shackle to check

finished

tool i made to press originals out, also use parts of this to adjust draglink.

its funny how often blocks of wood are the best too for the job....
and that tool looks interesting, what does it consist of?

A large socket, a 5/8 unc stud, tslot, and nut, and the extra bush i made as a spare. Yes, wood is invaluable.

Yeah i think the rough sawn timber keeps with the rest of the Patrol, bit rough!
Re: 1969 Patrol G60
very kool love seeing these old trucks come out of the wood work
Re: 1969 Patrol G60
I build a flat deck from scratch for the LR. A couple of pics are below. Things I would do differently are:
Weld the hinges for the sides the right way around. You need to weld them on so, if a side is not "up" but instead is folded down, that it doesn't slide off when you accelerate.
Yes there are pros & cons but if I was to do it again I would do it that way around.
Part done with hoop

All finished

I used 12 mm ply with some deck stain from Resene. I used stainless fixings and just black enamel paint with etch primer underneath.
Another thing is I didn't build it to any "spec". If you want to enter any decent competition, do some reading and build it to a specification, it will be worth it in the long run I think.
Finally, if you have a boat with a short drawbar, make sure the deck overhang isn't excessive. Else, if you turn to sharp, you may damage the boat.
At the moment I can't tow the fireball
Major fk up...
Cheers,
Pete

Re: 1969 Patrol G60
mate thats good advice, looks good! staying flatdeck without sides. i like that look you got, i was looking at hardwood ply too but quite pricey. this deck is a practice one, can get hold of some quila decking.
Re: 1969 Patrol G60
It would look good with some hardwood decking.
If you decide you want sides, I got the hinges, pins and latches from TWS
A rope bar is also a handy thing. Its missing on mine but I am thinking of adding it on the top of the sides
Cheers,
Pete

Re: 1969 Patrol G60
went and checked it out, he doesnt have enough to do the whole deck. going to work with what i have or see what else comes up. still have some work to do rust proofing on chassis etc, so its handy having deck not fixed down.
took her for an offroad trip, with a mate, decided its going to be the last heavy trip it does, took me so long to clean all the mud out of her, to get her mint and clean again. its to rare to use for heavy offroad. looking good though i think!!!

Re: 1969 Patrol G60
adjusted clutch presurre plate forks, bled and overhauled slave, and welded and redrilled pivot point. still have to double clutch but clutch system is perfect. syncros gone i belivev. on another note, top off! found first rust yet, few small holes in windscreen , under where fibre glass roof screws on. minor stuff. driving it to work was awesome! but was chilly!

Re: 1969 Patrol G60
I refixed roof on, with rubber strip as isolation between the joins on tub and windscreen to prevent vibration. Heres some new pics, gave her a cut and polish, followed by a wax. suprised how the paint came up! also secured deck down and coated it with polyurethane. I was going for a old school kinda look ie old farm truck, and im happy how it looks. didnt want the the deck to outdo the paint! also tinted some antirust primer to paint the brake master cylinder area. got the color pretty close. looks alot better.

Re: 1969 Patrol G60
