Remove or not, that is the question.

Garage talk. Anything from mounting a winch to water proofing the electrics.

Remove or not, that is the question.

Post by kbushnz »

Just gunna throw this one out there and see what comes back.
Most of you will know I run two winches...
One being my mid mount PTO and the other a low mount Warn 9000i.
Over the past few years I have only used the electric once !
All the other times the PTO has been the power house.... And never let me down.
So I am considering removing the electric.
Can't see the point in carrying all the extra weight up front...
(Might put it at the back if and when I bob the Playdoh)
I generally wheel in a group so on the rare occasion I have an issue with the PTO, help will be on hand....
So should I ditch the electric?

personally no keep it
and this be my reason why...
if you are lead scout and it goes horribly wrong...
and...
if you happen to drive a bad line....
maybe with a little zook behind you thats being towed up the track cause they cant quite do it them selves....
and....
you end up driving the side of the bank rolling the truck onto its side.....
by kricky the electric winch would of been worth a million bucks then

just make sure you keep the winch battery connected in future ah

anyway if the winch is running synthetic rope it wont weigh that much...and you could call it ballast for the hill climbs 8) 8)

Years ago on a 413 I had a rear mounted 8274 which could go both ways and on the front was a 4500, on more than one occasion I would pull all the way on the hi mount then run the 4500 out to hold us while I reset the hi mount. the 4500 only had 15 mtrs of cable but the warn had 60, so yes there were some long winchs up some hills

Id put the electric in the back then its more usefull and still there to help if you tip over or engine dies.
On another note how do you have the PTO working off a 1kz box?

YESSSSSSSS

oh wait a second, I clicked on this thread hoping it was going to be about removing PETEFJ or the never ending non related 4wd youtube clip threads

JOKES

I've got winch's front an rear on my landcruiser and hardly use either of them, on my work hilux I don't have 1, and always wanting/needing a winch or two.

Definetly keep, murphy will show next time you are out if you get rid of it.

The PTO runs off the transfercase.. And in the KZJ78 prado's it uses a transfercase like the MWB trucks... I have a thread on here which shows the whole process of installing the PTO..
