Hi,
First of all, i don't know much about turbos at the moment.
So i'm in need of a new turbo or rebuild.
I have search the forum and couldn't find what i was after so.
I have at the moment a HT12-5A, and i am looking for a direct replacement for under $500. http://www.aliexpress.com/ have heaps of turbos from $250-800. But i don't know which one? The all look a bit different to the HT12-5A. And the only place close that rebuilds turbos quoted
"Ht12 turbo standard service approx $880.00 minimum
Any more than a turbo kit, we will quote to overhaul"
Seems a bit much for me!
Also if i get one that fits do i need to get it tuned?
I can get a Turbo Rebuild Kit for $65, But doesnt it need to be balanced afterwards?

Re: TD27t Turbo?
Hi there, I upgraded my ht18 standard patrol turbo earlier this year. I got a full rebuild obviously with balance, had the internals machined out to accept a steel 360 degree thrust washer for more boost, and had the turbo modified to replace the compressor section with a garrett t04b housing and wheel to match required air flow for engine mods. All that cost $1100 delivered one week turn around, just couriered it down and they sent it back when it was done. I knew a little about turbos but didn't no about upgrade options, so took advice from TOTAL TURBO NZ LTD in wellington and I have had an awesome result. The service was the best experience I have had for ages. Local so called turbo diesel experts told me it would cost around 4k and they had no idea about possible upgrades. The company I dealt with gave me explanations and options for all different price ranges and how the vehicle would perform. I think just a rebuild was around 400 balanced from memory. They deal with turbos alone, and you wont end up with a laggy mismatched pile of rubbish. Just an option for ya.

That's not a good price, rebuild kit is around $200, small amount of labour and a balance. Look at what I got for 1100.

Is it the original Hitachi HT12-5A? or different? How old is it? How are the seals?
Re: TD27t Turbo?
Its the original turbo that was on it. The shaft has the normal amount of play in it for a non ball bearing turbo. It was running fine with no issues on my truck before I pulled it off. It was pulled off so I could put a bigger turbo on
