Wilwood parking brake

Hi All
I am sick to death of my Playdohs hand brake... Its absolutely crap !
Was thinking about the MR2 mod but $$$ and trying to find some...
Then got to thinking my normal brakes are just fine... Just need to sort the handbrake out..
Saw these tonight...and with a cable kit could work a treat.
Anyone done something similar???

I know it will need certing.... So will do it along with a few other things later in the year... But while the dollar is high to the USD..... Good time to buy and put it away for later

So you have posted up the cable system which we already have...
What does it attach to?

I too am sick of my handbrake. Not because it normally has worn a bit and does not work. More because every 6 months I've got to adjust it so that I pass!
One time for a WOF I had put in new shoes 6 months before and had just adjusted them up. Rick reckoned the lever still had too much movement.
The shoes got some weld on them to build them up a bit on the lever pivot points and hey presto I have not had to replace the shoes since!
Worth doing.
I replaced my discs 100k ago and drilled two angled holes at the periphery of the drum 180 deg apart so I can wash the mud out. That works well however the other day when the wheels were off so I could adjust the drums for a WOF yet again, I see my LH drum part of the discs has cracks every 50mm circumferentially across the drum. Doubt this has anything to do with the hole drilling but suspect it may be due to the non OEM discs

The calipers work out at $230 nz pair....
And the cables about $150 nz

What does it attach to?

Not quiet.. our cable system activates a drum / shoe brake...
This one is an extra caliper which is activated by the cable...Which calmps onto the disc.
Our cable run wont pull properly with the Wilwood setup... So need to adapt the current cable to the Wilwood one...
Then you can throw away the shoes and stuff...
Std hydraulic for foot brake.
Cable to extra calipers for handbrake...

Thats ok for an off road only..
But wont pass a cert.....to replace a hand brake....

I've read that they are pretty rubbish ...if you're talking about the same little spot calipers I'm thinking of. Maybe ok for a little sports car with small tyres, but probably a different story for a 4wd and 35s.

We're in the same boat and don't know which option to choose. I have sourced some mr2 calipers, but it would be a down grade from the prado calipers. How noticeable it would be, I don't know.

My surf has the mr2 conversion on it and it brakes fine. I am running 35's and the cert man was happy with it. Handbrake works well to once I finally got around to adjusting it.

These ones look a bit bigger than the spot calipers... Will check the pad size later... but point taken....
There is a hydraulic / cable one also so I imagine it would apply more clamping force.. but its more $$$$$

I used EF Falcon calipers with the hand brake built into the caliper on a Y60 Safari diff and it works well,past cert etc but probaly look at doing something with the cable position but otherwise they work well.Have had one 1 yearly warrant since recomplying and flew thru.Work well on the pedal and hand brake,worth a look,good luck Mike.
