locking rear diff hot or cold?
Im welding up my rear diff in my new landcruiser. Shuld i make the diff head as hot as i canbe 4 i weld it?
Re: locking rear diff hot or cold?
I normally just heat things until they are hot to the touch. i.e hot coffee . How are you welding it? I have heard of people arc welding the spider gears with a special rod but can't remember what made it work better than standard rods

Def hot, try the spit test - when you spit on it and it bubbles its over a hundy celsius on the surface

'Drift Spec'... The new "Half Assed"

Hi-ten eight arc welding rods would suit hardened or tough parts. And pre heating will help with penetration. And be sure to not quench or cool the parts quickly.
