hilux holden vs ecotec v6 wont start

Post by Ashohman »

I've just got everything wired and plumbed up in my conversion, went to turn the key to start motor for 1st time and it only cranks on the starter motor.... fuel pumps are working.

what should I be checking? spark from spark plugs?, injectors ( how do I check these?)

Run out of daylight to check spark tonight.

Anyone done a vs ecotec conversion before?
there isn't any special prime procedure for starting an engine that has be stripped down and cleaned out?

Any help or suggestions would be great
Cheers Ash

did a couple of ecotecs, first of all throw some fuel downs its throat, if the fires and runs then the fuel injectors are not working, either no power in the right wire or the ecu is not firing them due to the security system.

the ones i did would run if you put fuel down them, as the spark is not turned off.

SO where am I throwing this fuel exactly?

into the plenum ? down the air intake or did you mean take injectors out and chuck fuel down those holes?

down the throttle body is the easiest

Who wired it up? Are you sure you have battery and ignition to the correct wires on computer, fuel injectors and airflow meter etc
Check this post sounds similar

use a can of start ya bas*ard or CRC etc and get some one to crank it. much safer.

night time is the best time to check for spark. stick a screw driver in the end of the lead where the sparkplug would go and rest it on the manifold etc....night time is also when you check to see any voltage leaks from the leads as you will see them arc out onto the engine.

if you have spark ensure your fuel lines are on the right way. then unplug an injector and get a volt meter and stick it on the plug and crank it over . you should get a reading.

fuel lines on the right way I was pondering about this which way should they be? which is the in and return? the side with the fuel pressure regulator? (ive got this as the in ) and the other side that goes straight to the rail as the return? was thinking that this didn't sound correct?

Ah well that might be one reason why! ill double check which fuel line is going where.

yep. the regulator is always the last stop before fuel returns to the tank, this is what create's pressure in the fuel rails.

ITS ALIVE!

Got home from work and set to work.
Tested all spark plugs all 6 sparking OK
tested all injectors each had 12V on red wire and resistance of all injectors was 12 ohms

Took plenum cover off and sprayed engine start in there and cranked it it fired then died. Old man came down and I got him to crank it over while I sprayed engine start into plenum was running on ether but still no fuel.

suspected air locks in the fuel rail/ line

to took return hose off and chucked a bit of rubber hose I had spare into fuel can and let pump run would cut in and out to just kept turning pump on and off with ignition. re-conneted return hose bolted plenum cover back on.

Turned over again still nothing

sprayed engine start into the MAF into the intake fired up ok just sucking too much air due to no air filter at the moment.

reved it up YES very nice sound from the manifolds only haha

"I'm Lovin it"

still to tidy up interior stereo, switches and get head lights working. also install CB and mounting of computer

BUT ITS RUNNING!

Im so happy right now

Cheers for the advice guys no doubt ill be back for some more.

Ash.

Thinking about making a vid of it anyone be keen on seeing that?
