Manual Hubs on KNZ130
Manual Hubs on KNZ130
Hey guys, looking at changing my auto hubs to manual hubs on my truck. Its a KNZ130 v6 petrol 1993. I have heard people say I will need a spindle conversion kit but the mechanic says I don't, can someone please confirm either opinion please?

Re: Manual Hubs on KNZ130
get some manual hubs from a 4x4 hiace van or certain 4runners (nz new surfs)
Current 4wd: Surf Kzn185 ssrg factory Intercooled (yet to start build)
Past 4wd: toyota surf ln130, coil sas, 1uz v8 build
Past 4wd: toyota surf ln130, coil sas, 1uz v8 build

Re: Manual Hubs on KNZ130
I wouldn't use those hubs. I would be lookng for a set of secondhand 26 spline AISIN hubs from an IFS surf. They are a lot stronger than the aftermarket copies. There is a photo on here somewhere of an aftermarket copy blown apart only a few weeks from new.

Oops, yeah I knew that, brain fart moment.
26 spline ones, not 30.
My bad, sorry.

Haha that was my free wheeling hub. Yeah the aisin hubs are the best you can really get. I would be trying to get those. They are around and not too hard to find.

When you say Auto do you mean Electric FW hubs?
If so, stay with them and get Old Blue off here to retro-fit an Allen key manual drive system to them. They are way stronger than any after-market system and don't involve extra spacers which just add another fretting and weak point.
I am just fitting my set which are the Mark 2, both manual via Allen key and still with working electrics. The best of both worlds.
The other benefit is Old Blues awesome price. Not only are they stronger than the non-Aisin FW hubs. They are cheaper to convert too!

Forget this guys post he is talking about the Prado electric hubs that crap out and can be modified to be manual
The surfs have an ADD diff set up and fixed hubs that can be swapped out for manual hubs of a hilux, hiace or surf
Re: Manual Hubs on KNZ130
Found old blue on TM and he only has them for Prados's. They wont fit a surf so looking for manual hubs now...

If you find the right spline count on the manual hubs it is a simple swap. No mods needed.

Right got some hubs from ACE 4wd in chch. Does anyone have instructions or a guide as to how to install them?

Re: Manual Hubs on KNZ130
Only real tip is how to remove the small cone washers behind the six main nuts. Remove the nuts and spring washers then use a standard nut and put on the studs till is almost flush with stud then get a hammer and large punch and smack the nut knocking the stud inwards to jar the cone washer loose
Can take a few good hits and the cone washers will pop out
Here's a good info page. They use a socket to hit against the hub plate. Using a nut instead will stop dinting and marking the hub plate
