2JZ into 93 Prado

Post by wjw »

Having finally found a 2JZ-GE with an A340E Trans, with complete ECU and Loom... the mods on my truck have finally started...

Gallery

Truck did have a 1KZ:

This supra did have a 2JZ:

Both are now out, so Rick at 4wd accessories is going to put the 2JZ above into here:

Image

First step is to change the Input shaft, oil pump and bellhousings over, Aceomatic should be doing that this week and giving my auto a service.

So the plan is/was:

* Lots of research - Done, Have wiring diagrams, Toyota Service Manuals etc... only one missing is A343F Trans manual
* Find 2JZ-GE complete with Trans, ECU and loom - Done
* Remove 1KZ - Done
* Swap Trans bits over
* Install 2JZ with original A343 Trans, Serviced and ready to go
* Install New Springs and Shocks for 100mm Lift
* Borrow Riks tyres for Cert
* Buy own 35's ;)

* Get Muddy![/list]

We are keeping everything factory, except the location of the Alternator. Only issue so far, is we are missing some Power Steering bits:

Right now, its sitting in my garage doing nothing. It'll stay there until the 2JZ's in, then it'll go on Trademe. Its a complete Long engine with no ancillaries. Although it overheats, so will need some work.

Picked up trannies this morning, only bell housing had to be changed, pump and input shafts are the same. There was one cable changed, can't remember what it was though. Only other thing is that my gearbox is on its last legs....

But motor and box should be in the hole by end of Monday if Rick gets on ok :)

Anyone have any A343 I can have?

It Fits :) Just, a few issues:

- Sump needs to be modifed as it fouls the front input shaft flange
- Aircon piping needs extending as pump is on a different side to the 1KZ
- Exhaust needs some work :)

Other than those, it was pretty straight forward. All the 1KZ hoses are in almost the same position as the 2JZ, so we just need a few longer/shorter ones.

Its been mounted slightly offset to make access to the alternator easier, that'll be moved later once its running.

Radiator has gone off to be flow tested and serviced.

Three days have been booked for the guy to look at the above next week, with the aim that the certifier will see it Friday.

Cheers,

Bill

Radiator is in the standard spot, although we can't fit the aircon radiator in :( its either aircon or electric fan... I chose the fan.

Just got a call from rick! It RUNS!!! I would have heard it earlier but he couldn't get it going, turns out the ignitor wasn't bolted down. Will get over there tomorrow and get a vid so I have some sound before it gets an exhaust!

Well shes almost done, just got to finish the wiring. Oh and she needs different shocks in the back, shorted compressed length as we can still go another 100mm.... No cutting of bodywork or flares needed so far, ramped it to check it... nice axle twister might change that but I wreckon it'll be fine...

Some of the other Prados got better ramps, so we know theres more to do...

Certs done too....

Nope, didn't need to, tyres still fit when touching the bumpstops (in the front) and at the moment the rear shocks stop them getting to the bumpstops, but based on the available space under the guard and space to bump stops we should be fine there too.

is that the twin turbo model engine or natural ( non turbo ) , i hear the twin turbo version is an absolute beast and can easily be tweaked for serious HP , sapposedly stronger than the popular nissan skyline GTR RB26DETT !

Its the NA Version, The wreckoning was that the TT would just dig holes. For the price difference I can SuperCharge the NA version, which sounds like a better option. NA can get to 500BHP modded, TT 1500BHP.... Can be supercharged with standard internals too.. Has heaps of grunt as it is though. I can do 80ks on the road in 1st ... need a rev counter before I risk going higher...

Nope, But there are lots of things in the engine bay on the passenger side, behind glove box and passenger side kick panel.
