measure twice drill big hole with holesaw once stick to gether add some silicone and your done i dont even think u have to measure dont they come with a template usually?
fitted one to mine, wasnt to bad to do yourself, holes wouldnt of lined up if i used the template that came with it.
I cut the hole with a jig jaw which wasnt the best thing to do but all I had, better than the angle grinder a 4x4 supplier used on my feroza when they fitted one for me. I wasnt impressed as it was still a shiny at the time.
When I did mine, I spent an hour marking up the bodywork as the template was crap! I used a hole saw to get through the guard, which was double skinned, which was a suprise. Then used a couple of tek screws to hold the mounting plate onto the pillar. Plus lots of silicone....

Who knew Prados could fly?
The silicon is to make sure the snorkel is completely waterproof, use it on all the joins. Once it's installed do a water test, remove the filter element and block off the inlet to the motor and liberally spray the snorkel to find points of penetration.
If you use a holesaw make sure you use a metal holesaw and use plenty of cutting lubricant.
Once the cut is made cover the edges of metal with an antirust product and run a rubber strip around it.
Definitely measure 10 times and cut once, a new guard is expensive!
I fitted a safari snorkel and the template was 110% spot on
As well as a whole tube of silicon I managed to sleeve a tight piece of a wheelbarrow inner tube over the join between the snorkel and the airbox snout to make sure it was extra water tight.
If you check the aircleaner box after you get back from deep water you'll soon see if waters been leaching in or not
cheats way of checking for water tightness is to just hold your hand over the top of the snorkel while the engine is running. Any weak points will start hissing straight away. Try not kill engine, although it shouldn't do it any harm.
Ugly is a state of mind..... and the state of my truck!
Ive brought 2 snorkels of this guy, the one for my truck the template was pretty spot on, but the one for kaneys truck was a lil different, didnt even use the template on his one but hey it works
