Yeah Richard we have been lucky and I believe with Keith, Bob, Tim etc; prepared to lead there can be more memorial trips, I am a rebel and don't take to rules prev er to use common sense and the thing with common sense these days it's not very common, modern day society is geared to only work when someone educated beyond there intelligence has produced rules that in most cases we don't need and / or don't work. There was good reason why the likes of Al's and your trips did not get talked about till after the event. With all my trips and I'm sure everyone's damage does occur to the ground and vegetation the saying "Tread Lightly" in 4wd circles is just that a saying, sure limit and don't cause any more damage than you have to but on the West Coast most of the damage will regenerate and be hard to find after a short period of time. Most of the damage I have caused has been to my Vehicle, that can be repaired, or to myself and in my Brother John's case is irreparable,

GET DIRTY,

FITZY.

Add your name to this DEFINATES list, it's time we had a numbers list getting sorted (repost including your name and grade if not 5  )
Just a note to all, there are plenty of trip options in Reefton for all grades, trip leaders/trips are adhoc and will be organised depending on attendees, trip details aren't going to be posted anywhere, when it comes to Reefton trips, they will be organised at the time and info will be shared to attendees only, so come along :P
Just to be sure you're all aware, we're not a club, we don't have a leader, we DO have standards, there is accountability for your own actions, we know how to have a good time, you can attend...have a good time and not be judged as long as you stick to the simple rules of respecting others and respecting the type of track we're on

Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set.

Not to sure on the grades yet but up for anything crazy as long as im sure I can drive it home again, not going to risk rolling it so grade 4 at a guess, you nutters with trailer queens can keep your grade 5 stuff

Thanks Furnace

Hi Furnace

Definitely no offence intended and I think my poor wording may have led you to misconstrue my meaning. I have nothing against non-club members per-se, in fact I have not been a club member for most of my 4WD experience.

I am, however, living in Reefton and am aware of some specific instances that have led to a hardening in attitudes against 4WDers in some quarters, actions that were carried out by people who were not part of any club or club event.

When I used the term non club-member I was not intending to infer or imply that that was the reason for their 'boganism', it was merely an additional factor in my description of them.

In hindsight, I should not have used that term and freely apologise to any who have taken offence. Like texting, it is far too easy to write something and put across a meaning other than that intended.

Believe me, I am the last person anyone would describe as PC!! I do, however, take exception to any of those muppets who jeopardise all of our access to 4WD-friendly land.

That is fair enough and i totally understand the frustration..but that same frustration is held by any responsible 4x4er,i would be totally pissed off if Big River got closed as it really is a fantastic family drive and the history is also amazing..i love the gold history that is why i 4x4..i own a section and a 11.5 mitre bus in the Greenstone that i use for a getaway very close to where the 4x4 tracks come out..i have seen some d**kh**ds in their and have had my say to them..put my point across..

Old nurses home is a good option, the motor camp is also good.

The Lantern Court in the main street is the best motel in town if you want something a little more upmarket, or there's the Bellbird motel, three hotels with accommodation and Al Fresco's. Several holiday homes - such as the Moore holiday home in Times Street just up from us - are also available for short-term rentals (weekends etc.)

If anyone is really stuck at the time there's room in our back yard for a tent or two :D

Looks like a few dudes coming then. I bags a bunk each for Rude and myself at Lake D seen as we won't be bringing stretchers or airbeds over with us.
Our flights are confirmed arrive 10pmish 18th and leave 2pmish 25th. Now starting the countdown. Rude and I have a trip in two weeks and this one will be the next after that. :D

Would anybody coming on this trip be interested in a jaunt up for a look at the open-cast Echo coal mine here? We could continue over through the (inactive) Island Block mine site and down into the Waitahu river, cross over and come out via the Montgomery's hut track.

It would be a shiny trip as far as the river, but crossing can be a real challenge and definitely not shiny grade if the river's up.

I work at Echo and should be able to tee it up, but would only bother if there are a few who genuinely want a look. (Not surprisingly, I don't feel any burning desire to go for a trip to work on my days off if no-one else is enthusiastic about it.)
