90 series Prado ute

Post by rokhound »

Okay, I am contemplating hacking up the playdoh as a ute is more useful for me currently. Being the numpty that I am, just any old ute won't cut it, and after toying with the idea of chopping up a 100 series Cruiser, I started thinking about chopping the wagon I already have. It owes me nothing and might actually be a cool project.
Anyway, here's a hacked pic of what I was planning. One option uses the top of the existing rear door, the other is a bit more work but imho it looks better. What do you guys think?

(Can you tell I don't know how to use Photoshop ?  )

This is the 100 series that I thought looked kinda cool 8)

Always an advantage if the beastie doesn't owe you anything ... however, the 100 Series looks both unique and bloody sexy :!: 8)

Have you seen this on TM - price a bit high but quality workmanship + triple diff-locks:

90 series playdohs are still holding their value, if you found a betterer one it would help pay for it if you sold it

If I sold it, I would do the 100 series. Not sure I can bring myself to biff $30k at a wagon and then take to it with a grinder  (although that green one looks awesome)

Why not chop the cab right off and whip up a flatdeck? Either way I think you'll struggle to get a Bobcat on the back

That's the way everyone else does it dude.
If you keep the thing looking like a well side it looks a lot more factory done. Only issue with the Prado is that the tailgate swings sideways, but I couldn't be arsed with hacking about with that so it would just stay side swing.

Bobcat fits on the 5t truck just fine, no need for it to go on the playdoh.

Theres a green one done around Dunedin, looks not real good as its just cut straight. I like your bottom picture best, nice if you section the C pillar onto the B pillar, gives it more of a factory look. Will you be doing it yourself? Thought about selling it and buying a 70series Prado and chopping that? There seems to be some cheap KZJ78s forsale lately, could probably sell yours buy a 70series Prado and chop it for what you get for yours?

have a bit of a think about the width of the deck. there was an 80 down this way that was a single cab ute and the inside with of the deck was quite small as the whole body goes out quite a lot at about window level. Hard to explain but looked bloody weird the inside "wall" of the well side became narrower at the top. I think the prados have quite straight sides but the 100s possibly have the increased width thing at about window line too.

my pic didn't work... but something to think about anyway

Have you printed out a photo, chopped bits out, coloured bits in with a biro and then glued it back together, then taken a photo of that? 'cause that's AWESOME!
My photo shop skills are about the same as yours, but my commitment is clearly some what lower.
Speaking of lower, the bottom pic is best.

Hi Grant.
If the Prado doesn't owe you anything? That would be my first choice. And you'd be sticking with the devil you know mate.

Yep it is a 95% done deal.
The problem is that last 5% involves picking up the grinder and starting the slashing

Might do the 100 series next......... :P

I'm sure you've done your share of roof removals during MVA's Tim (Kev offered to do it for me as well  ). I'm probably looking for something just a wee bit more refined than that

Figuring I'll need more than one nut to sort it, so that must be fairly refined wouldn't you say?
