heater fan probs

Hi all,

Just signed up an hoping to get some help with a prob I have on my 95 2.7td terrano, late shape.

A while back the blower fan started cutting out, would come and go as it pleased, I changed the fan itself as it looked like the brushes where worn but no joy the same kept happening and now its stopped working at all.

I dont have a manual so guess first question is can I down load one, or does anyone know what to check / change next?

Getting 12v to both of the terminals on the fan plug at all times, switching the setting makes no difference, no other electrical issues going on, it doesnt work on any setting with or without aircon or on circulate.

Hi, have you checked the resistors for the fan, if you have power going into the fan plug but fan dosent go then its either the fan or the resistors.
The resistors are there to give you the 3 different fan speeds, they fail quite commonly on most makes and models.

Or no earth?

As I said I dont have a workshop manual so Im poking in the dark with this.

I had the same problem with my air-con fan only running on high.
Turned out to be the heater resistor. This is a sizable trinket mounted back and behind the glove box. Removal of the glove box and undoing of a couple of the dash mount skrews on the extreme left should give you sufficient access. I watched it being done on my Terrano when I first got it. Solved all the problem. About a 15 minute job. It is not uncommon for these to go. I was fortunate as my truck was on quarantee. Hope this helps. Cheers

Was pulling pieces off the parts wagon today so took a photo for ya.
Steps:
1 Remove the glove box
2 Remove the steel plate in behind
3 Remove the resistor block

Found it today, not the same as yours but def the same thing, anyway of testing it as it looks & smells ok (the comment was that they burn out!).

can you buy new ones or just second hand?

So this is turning out to be a drama, thought I had one for $40 but there was a misunderstanding & its the wrong part! all others are quoting around $125+ for second hand, sounds a hell of a lot for a small simple part to me, any ideas where's best to get one or what they should really be worth?

Why not just re wire fan through relay an temp probe or switch, easy job an will save any future problems...also allows you to set what temp you want it to run. Just an idea anyway

If i had torrets now would be a prefect time to use it, been on the phone to the local nissan dealer this aft, new resisior $52+gst second hand 3 dealers quoted $125 best I could get was $70+ postage.

its on an over night order so not 100% it the right part but the guy knew where it was mounted & seemed sure we were both talking about the same part.

Round an round and round I go but still my heater fan will not go!!

went to pick up my "Heater fan resistor" today, not what you guys where talking about, the part kindly shown in the photo is a "power control module, list price $260trade, only 1 in Nz, stocked in Auckland"

where the heater fan resistor is shown on the schematic my model doesn't have one, the mould out line is there but the hole is not cut out.

Given up, booked it in to the local elec with the story that now goes with it, he chuckled and said how many time "Googled info" ends up costing more time & money than taking it to be fixed in the first place would of, we will see,,, The fact that mine doesn't work on High makes them think its not the resistor in any case.

Well, finally getting to the bottom of this,,

What you guys call the Fan resistor, is actually the power control module, on non climate control (auto speed) models there is a heater fan resistor, which fits next to the fan and is $56 new, but not on climate models.

BUT,, in the trade the power control module is called the fan resistor because basically its a set of very very expensive resistors (Possibly the most expensive resistors in the world ).

So after the chuckling auto elec ran me down for "goggling" to fix it my self, he ordered a new one at $258+ without asking me and charged me $81 for the pleasure of finding & fitting it

So the good news is it works, the other good news is Ive told him he can have the new one back as I didn't authorise him to get it, just to tell me what was wrong, and the very good news is that I have a second hand one on the way for $75.

So chuckle as he may about self fixes, next time Ill be changing all the second hand parts I can possible no matter what they might or might not be called before I go anywhere near the auto electricians, and still prob be better off .
