abandoned build?!
Hi Guys - long story..
I have had this 1985 CSW land rover 110 for about 6 years now. I had it fully resprayed, acoustic sound proofing under bonnet and under floors, tinted windows, new wheels and mud tyres etc. I had it signwritten and this has effected the paint on the back panels where the branding has been removed.
The interior is in fantastic condition, it has been really well looked after.
After about 2 years of ownership the original 3.5 V8 packed up. Stag 4x4 removed the old engine and I paid off a 4.6 RR V8 motor which is sitting at Stag. I also have a Weber 500 carb with edelbrock manifold which I was going to put on. Circumstances have changed now and I don't want to spend the rest of the money to have the new engine put in with new exhaust etc. The truck has been sitting under tarps at my fathers for 3 years and I have just got it back and it is parked in my driveway.
My question now is - how to move it on to someone who can finish it, and what is it worth? Would I be best selling the body, wheels, engine , carbs seperately. I guess it comes down to who is looking but though I would throw it out there - any advice appreciated!
Here are some pics, including the painting process. The last one shows it with sign-writing which has now been removed. I'll do it in 2 posts to add more pics.

Re: abandoned build?!
At a guess you are in Auckland and so is the vehicle.
As an unfinished project you will not get all your money back if sold as is. You probably won't get it all even if finished. But it is quicker and cleaner to sell as is, especially if still registered (on Hold?).
However the best return will be selling it in parts but that means you have to find the time and place to dismantle and then ship off the parts. It takes time as not everything will sell straight away. Then you are left with the remains that are slow selling parts that you have to dispose of.
You could try the various Land Rover clubs as LR enthusiasts might jump at the chance of a bargain project to finish.

Re: abandoned build?!
great thanks for the reply. The Engine is still at Stag. I realise I won't get anywhere near what I've spent back - just keen to move it on now. Any idea what a fair price would be if someone was looking to finish? Happy to cut my losses to get it off the driveway and have someone get her back on the road.

Re: abandoned build?!
i don't know - what do you reckon?
Re: abandoned build?!
Probably more than you think!!
Out side looks nice and straight, paint work is good (those sticker marks are easy to remove).
What's the overall interior like? Condition of the seats, door cards, roof lining, floor coverings etc...
What state are the doors frames and fire wall in?? They look ok in the pic's, was the rust repaired when resprayed??
What has been done in the engine bay?? Has the 3.5 just been removed and thats as far as it got?? Are the factory 3.5 mounts still on the chassis, gearbox still in, radiator still there, exhaust still there etc etc??
I'm thinking if the rest of its as good as it looks, bolt this straight back into it and you have a tidy running 110:
http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... -590000062
Probably 4 or 5k as it sits if the rest of it is as good as it looks in the pics. Maybe just under 10k with a goos scrub up and a Wof, Reg etc

Re: abandoned build?!
The only paint that won't be an easy fix is the two rear panels where the lettering glue has pulled off the paint.
The engine bay has everything you need - gearbox and exhaust all there. The radiator is out but in the back of the truck. Any other missing bits will be at Stag 4x4.
The interior is nearly mint - all seats, door linings, roof lining in very very good condition. Even the original dash decals are all intact and easily readable. This was a very well looked after garaged Christchurch CSW prior to coming to Auckland. The only thing missing from the interior is one of the rear bench seats which had been removed to fit an LPG tank (since removed). The middle seats are in extremely good nick.
Rust - it had almost none when I got it - there is some surface rust starting to appear underneath from the last couple of years under the tarp but definitely nothing major.
Anyone that views it will be pretty amazed at the condition for it's age.
I would be happy with 4k without the wheels and tyres, or 5k with them.
For 8k someone could take the whole deal - including the 4.6 RR V8 (cost $3500 plus gst from Stag 4x4 - had 55k on the clock from a RR vogue autobiography), the Weber 500 carbs and edelbrock manifold ($800) and I'll even throw in a full length yellow Camel roof rack!
Someone mechanically minded could make a bit of a beast out of that!

How complete is the 4.6 V8 from Stag's and is there any guarantee or warranty with the engine? Does it also include injection system, inlet and exhaust manifolds as well? Is the old 3.5 engine also available with carbs etc?

Re: abandoned build?!
sweet - had a good chat to him this arvo. Would love to see what you guys could get up to with it!
Re: abandoned build?!
Hell yes, he's fizzing about it. Been looking for a petrol CSW for a while.
It'll get the big interior fit out with cupboards and a bed, roof top tent is on the cards so it can sleep four, and I guess it will have the top to bottom overhaul and tidy up as he's a mechanic.
Fingers crossed it all works out for him and he can beat the competition to secure it first!!

Deal has been done - here are some more pics to keep the thread going until Dave and Pete take it to the next level!
Most of these are taken during the painting and fresh from paint.

Good to see it going to a good home! Do you remember the colour code by any chance? Is it a factory LR colour? Cheers Justin

Re: abandoned build?!
nope not a factory colour, it's a green/grey with a very matt finish. Paint was done by Grant at GTrefinishers up here in AK. He did give me the paint code once but I can't find it now.
if you flick him an email he might be able to tell you. He knows it well.
