No different gearbox. I dont think it going to be easy. Find an fd46 at least the length will be closer
Re: R50 TD27/TD42 conversion
the other way to do it is to use patrol chassis and running gear and put your terrano body on it. seen a navara done like that.

Re: R50 TD27/TD42 conversion
you'll need to use an auto trans if you want a bolt up conversion(that's if you have a manual. The Auto's are interchangable between the patrol, terrano, mistral, laurel, skyline, cefiro the difference is in the bell housing. even your R50 transfer case will bolt up to the auto but not the manual(unless you already have a manual 4wd box).
The one engine that is interchangable with the auto is the RB series as
there is a thread here about a terrano/RB25det build you should read up on so you know what your are in for.
your best bet is to find a LD28T from a nissan laurel that is an auto. tickle up the engine bolt your transfer case on the back. this will fit better in the engine bay the the 4.2

Waiter...there is a drought in my glass.
Re: R50 TD27/TD42 conversion
a far easier way and better is to fit a qd32t. intercooled and tweaked it should match a stock td42t power.

Thats probably the best best as you will get a better power to weight ratio aswell, not to mention a qd32 should just about bolt straight in, and cost about the same either way (depending where you get the engine from of coarse.

Oh it does bolt in, it is the same block as the 2.7 Same mounts, same bell housing.
Same same

Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

Re: R50 TD27/TD42 conversion
hi, thanks
my r50 td27 intercooler is auto, so which means the td42 will bolt on the auto box ?
i was told that the 3.2 diesel turbo is not as strong as td27, isnt it true ?
was towing a 1.1ton boat from south and found out that is pretty much the max that td27 can tow, wanna upgrade something easier and no hassal and directly power upgrade. instead of boost it up.
thanks people...

Re: R50 TD27/TD42 conversion
The qd32 has heaps more go than the td27 turbo. the std na qd32 will beat a std td27 turbo let alone a turbo ome. If you doing a conversion then make sure you get the qd32 flex plate as the turbo qd32 has a 7 bolt crank not a 6 bolt
Re: R50 TD27/TD42 conversion
I dont think a td42 will fit in a terrano engine bay,it was built for a 4 cyl not a 6.
Re: R50 TD27/TD42 conversion
I'd be very sure that TD42 won't fit a Terrano engine bay. I looked at fitting a an XR6t motor in and there was no chance and a TD is about the same length. A TD27 is basically a TD42 with 2 cylinders cutoff so that gives you and idea of the size difference. (they use the same pistons etc)
Boosting the TD27 will be cheaper and easier than an engine change and they are strong enough to handle it.
Seeing as the QD32 is a TD27 that's been stroked it is a good option but for the cost and issues of a change I'd just work the TD27.

Nissan Terrano coilovers, turboed VH45, Safari axles, and some other stuff.
Re: R50 TD27/TD42 conversion
The qd32 is a bolt in, its been bored and stroked. even the manifolds bolt over.
Re: R50 TD27/TD42 conversion
Thanks people !
here comes a stupid question ....
why is the qd32 looks the same as td27 ? i mean totally the same.
qd32 is 3.2L diesel turbo too ? how much better then td27 ?
if i do the qd32 engine conversion, would i be able to use the factory td27 trans ? factory intercooler pipe are the same position too ?
sorry for all these silly questions, i just jumped into the diesel 4x4 from petrol RWD ... ha..
many thanks

Re: R50 TD27/TD42 conversion
Unless there's something special about your R50, I can't see any reason for swapping the td27 for qd32. Just sell current wagon, and go buy one with qd32 and save yourself thousands of $$ and/or countless hours and headaches

i don't know why thats the case.
nissan name the engines, first letter is the engine series, 2nd is fuel and numbers size. i have no idea why its a Q series and not a T series. could be its a nissan conversion of the TD, the TD was designed by UD rather than nissan.
