I currently have a PTO on my Landcruiser which makes it hard to fit bolt on front bars of the likes made by ARB etc.. On top of that I haven't done much winching but don't like the idea of the truck not being able to drive while under winch. T deal with I am thinking about disabling the PTO, removing it and fitting a remote bar winch...
Have I got it all wrong? Am I not using my which properly?
Cheers.
PTO or not?
Re: PTO or not?
There is no problem winching and driving with the PTO...
Has its peculiarities but works..
Don't get rid of it... Its strong and will winch all day long as long as your engine is running...

Re: PTO or not?
You can drive the wheels whilst winching, however it is not as controllable as using an electric winch. Just have your transfer case set to 4 low instead of neutral. This will power both the PTO and driveline.
I prefer the PTO due to the sheer pulling power and lack of electrics. Even though it can be a pain to use under some circumstances.

Roger that will keep it for now, thought I may have been missing something, Thanks.
Re: PTO or not?
Electric & PTO's both have their advantages, I've had both & prefer the PTO, especially for larger rigs like a cruiser.
If you get a custom bullbar made you should be able to mount the winch a good bit further back than the standard 'cruiser porch, & it would probably cost much less than buying an ARB bar & a decent electric winch.
Best thing with any winch is to get some practice using it so when you're really in the poo you can get yourself out safely & quickly without wrecking stuff.

If it breaks, build it stronger.
If it doesn't break, drive it harder.
