Newbie Got a 96 Regulus RS-R LTD

Post by dirtydaz »

Hi all, from Christchurch.
I have just bought a 134,000k 96 Regulus 3.2 TDi and am after a few tips as to the first steps in ownership of one of these.
I'm going to do full service with Oil, filter, air filter, trans flush and filter, diff oils, transfer box oils, full coolant system, strip and flush. Diesel filter, steering fluid flush, brake fluid flush,
I'm going to strip out most of the running gear and thoroughly clean and under seal the chassis.
While stripped what other things should I look for or upgrade under the truck? my intended use is 70% commute road use and 30% off road, light 4x4 use for back country fishing access etc. I'm looking at putting a set of Micky T's STZs 245/70/16 on it.
I would like to replace the shocks for some good quality ones and have heard that the trailing arm bushes can benefit from being replaced with urethane ones. I will strip wheel bearings and clean and re-grease if in good condition and assess brake pads and shoes while down there, are there better pads and shoes to use. Was it the 96 models that had the rear floor pan corrosion issues? Are there any things I should do with the front end while its on blocks, will shout it a new set of boots and clean and grease everything I can. Thanks for your advise in advance.
Cheers.

I assume you are intending to go off road with it?............

for starters take all the flares and body mouldings off and fit bar work....those f*ckers are expensive to replace. ... more expensive then a set of ARB bull bars.
Waiter...there is a drought in my glass.

Hi, off road but not bush bashing, just back country river access shingle roads mostly.
