New member Northland - 91 Nissan Safari LWB TD42

Post by Hiikahard »

Hi all, Noel's my name.

I picked up a stock standard 91 Nissan Safari LWB TD42 Automatic a few weeks ago and have plans for a few mods in the near future. Overall its in pretty good nick and runs well with 174ks (give or take any previous odo bodgying). Has an aftermarket trans cooler fitted and good maintainence/service history, so not much too fix on it.

Since buying it I've fitted a safari snorkel and have the few small minor rust spots being sorted at the mo as well as tow hooks being fitted. Looking at fitting a turbo (towing and hills), giving it a 2inch suspension lift and then running a set of 33x12.5's on 15 x 10 steel rims. Maybe an electric winch later on, but have a high lift jack set up at the mo so no rush.

I don't plan on getting too serious with the mods as I mainly beach drive to my surfcasting spots, but do plan on joining one of the local 4x4 clubs and getting into a bit of other off road terrain.

Rust will no doubt be the biggest thing to keep on top of with beach driving, so hopefully my old beach bomb (bighorn) will keep going a bit longer for local beach use in the Hokianga, which will leave the safari for the odd trip away to other areas.

Anyway just my intro as a first timer to the forum. Always keen to hear what others have done to their wagons. Any advice is welcome

Cheers

I live and work in South Hokianga, but I'm from Mitimiti in North Hokianga right on the west coast. I spend most of my days off in Mitimiti fishing, where my other truck (bighorn) sees most of its action on the beach.

Grew up in Koke and Broadwood, still spend Christmas' at Mitimiti and usually bowl out there Easter weekend for a day or two as well. (Im picking we know the same people.) No club on North side, but we were looking at resurrecting the Hokianga 4wd Club, one of the guys in Koke still has the original sign, his old man had it stashed away from the late 70's. dunno what clubs are on the South side apart from maybe Kauri Coast.

Thanks for the welcome guys. As a new member, if I want to post questions about turbo options do I post on the new members board, or within this thread, or can I post in the Diesel Engine and Modifications page? I've done some searching on this forum as well the Patrol 4x4 forum but cant seem to find what I'm looking for. It's regarding a TD27 turbo fitted to the TD42 engine. Cheers

I've probably seen you over at Mitz, I'm there most Easters/Xmas' and I can guarantee we'll know the same people. I know there's Kaitaia and Kerikeri clubs and I'll eventually join one of them. Always keen to a part of a Hokianga club though if it gets up and going.
