Maxxis Bighorn 33's
Maxxis Bighorn 33's
Hey guys, long time no see.
Its about time that I replace my tyres as Im starting to do a bit more 4x4ing into the back country and my current tyres are getting low.
Are Maxxis tyres still a good tyre to get? Ive had bighorns on my truck for a good few years now and they have lasted well.
I see the price seems to have crept up quite a bit.
Does anyone know the best (read cheapest) place to tyres these days? Im out in Rolly so would prefer somewhere on the west end, but will travel if I need to.
Is there any other tyre that people recommend similar to these, and WHY?
Im looking at the MT 762

Re: Maxxis Bighorn 33's
there are 2 bighorn options there is the 762 and 764 options the 764 option is a new pattern and is priced different to the 762, depending on the size you are after , some sizes have no more 762 available as they are being replaced with the 764.

Re: Maxxis Bighorn 33's
So are they discontinuing the 762? would be a shame as it appears to be a step back in traction. we are running them on some work trucks and the 764's dont seem to have the same bite. aslo they seem to come out from factory with a thin tread ie its only 12mm deep new on a 225 75 16 vs others near 16mm.if I had the choice i would go old pattern any day

Re: Maxxis Bighorn 33's
not really discounting as such just cheaper than the new pattern. the old pattern is still a great tyre so no need to lower the price

Re: Maxxis Bighorn 33's
I don't think they are dis-continuing the 762
the new 764 is only available in about 6-8 sizes so far
and FYI the Nanakang Mudstar is not like the 762 or 764, it is exactly the same as the 754 though

3 of us (me, UBZ and 4x4Amb) are running the 762's over the 764's due to tread depth and tyre life.
I rate them as a good all rounder grip wise, and they seem to be wearing really well!!

Re: Maxxis Bighorn 33's
So I bought me another set at $360 each a piece, fitted, balanced and on the vehicle. No special treatment, was a walk off the street price.
Seems like everyone else must be making a killing on these as most places quoted me over 400 each.

Re: Maxxis Bighorn 33's
Living at Rolly - have you got any contacts in the Army? The Pinzgauers run 33in BFG's (16in rim) so if you can tap into their purchasing system I'm sure it's heaps less than retail....

Shit thats ok.
I looked at 4wdbits and other places and no one came close to that price at all.
Re the army, why settle for the tyres on a Pinzgaur, I want the whole dam vehicle. lol. Alas I dont tho.
