94 Nissan Mistral

Post by Disco Gofer »

Any ideas out there why my buddy's Mistral has its head light jammed on? He can home last week at night, turned the lights off and got out but noticed they were still on but looked weaker than normal? The switch was off and he turned it on and off a few times but all it did was dim when turned off. All the park lights, higha dn low beam work on full power but seem to have some volatge feeding back through them when off. He now has to take the battery off every time he stops. This is his only vehicle and needs to get to the Ambo every day as a paramedic so am trying to help him out but dont know enough as there may be some common fault. I chnaged out each relay under the dash with a checked and working replacement relay from a Nissan wrecker incase a relay was jammed on but no win there.

Any help would be great.
cheers

check out the headlight switch, if they are like the terrano ones they can bend or snap parts that hold the contacts open, causing all sorts of things to happen with the headlights.

Do the lights have an auto function?

No auto lights, just the two stage twist for park and lights. The stork is working fine and changes high and low beam and the park lights work fine too. Its just the "yellow" lower voltage lights that stay one when turning everything off. Some thing looks like it sorted out and feeding voltage through.....dont know where to start looking though.

Have you pulled the stalk off and had a look at the contacts?

Is there another switch on the dash for driving lights that is activated?
What part of the country are you in? Someone may be able to pop by and have a look for you.
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

Tap the relay in the fuse box.

it'll be the contacts in the switch, mine did the same thing, sure enough pulled the switch apart and found it all burnt. cleaned them up with some contact cleaner and have been fine ever since (on a 96 mistral)

Well my friend lives in Glenfieldmfor in Auckland and I live in Hamilton. I go up about three times a week on business and private visits and am trying to pop in each time to try some new. I am also battling to Google an English fuse designation for this truck. It's all in Jap obviously so don't know what fuse it is that has the visible "melted" wire behind it. The fuse is intake but the wit leading in behind it has been hot at some stage and has visible discovering and distortion. It's the top left fuse looking straight in from the front of the fuse box in the vehicle.

I might have to strip the insulation back from there to split all the wires and see if its melted together deeper in the wiring cluster.

Thanks for the help and questions so far guys.
