1999 70 series cruizer

Post by slaayyaa »

Work is tendering off a a 1999 Toyota Cruiser troop. 4.2NA 5 spd manual, 300km. It needs a patch in the floor from where some extra power cables where run and has since rusted out ($500 to fix), has a second battery set up, uprated springs in the rear to handle more weight. I have taken it for a drive and engine seems to run pretty good, starts nice and runs smooth. It had been sitting for a few months before hand. no smoke what so ever. 4wd high and low run smooth, as do manual hubs, gear box feels like it operates as it should.

Springs/ torsion's in the front, air bag / leaf springs in the back. Second fuel tank, which im not sure if standard or not?

extras, bolt in roll bar/ cargo cage. TJM front bar.

After taking it for a decent drive I heard a bit of a wine from the from what seems is the gear box. It still stays when out or gear and with clutch in which could make it something in the final drive or shafts maybe?? Its not a major wine or unbearable but its there.
I also noticed one of the front ball joints weeping a bit which I guess is axle bushes?? how hard are these to replace? I have only ever played with rear end bushes.

Last WOF in Jan failed on rust and rear sway bar bushes. Has been sitting since.

Im still trying to get the service history on it but imagine it would be up to scratch.

Any pointers or advice on these trucks? anyone had similar gearbox wine? Im trying to come up with a figure to submit but dont want to buy expensive problems.

Plan would be to get rust fixed up and probably deck out with a bed and storage for the snowboarding season. Plus do a good chunk of 4wding when the opportunity arises. Will be a bit better off road than my 91 V6 terrano I reakon  , but not as good on road.

Ill get some pics up to.

Cheers,
