They were trying to extract him from the hole, which they did.
It didn't look like much of a hole and if he had been in a decent rig he wouldn't have got stuck in the first place

Turn the screen 45 degrees & it looks like a steep incline. Now imagine the snatch strap isn't there. Now it just looks like normal climbing behaviour for a SWB GQ!

The tippiness of the SWBs scares the shit out of me, all the weight goes straight to the back

They have the most atrocious suspension geometry of any production 4wd on coils. It doesn't appear that the designers changed anything from SWB - LWB designs. Probably why you won't find any other manufacturer who has a short and a long on coils with the same basic platform (apart from the length)

they have a certain character to them, and you learn that, or roll them, they can catch you out if not careful

Defender 90, 110, 130?? Not 100% sure, maybe there are some differences...

Apparently when they released the 127 in the 80's, all they did was take a 110, chop the chassis and weld in another piece of old chassis rail! Classic Land Rover.

I REALLY like the Patrol, but it seems they're either too short or too long.

I almost had a similar situation when 4wheeling up north on land next to my in laws and the wife got my shorty stuck and the local guy who pulls the boats out of the water came up in his tractor to pull me out. I told him to do a straight pull but being 70+ he knew best....and did a 75degree pull, he started and I felt it go on 2 wheels and almost went on its side so I reved it to 4,000rpm and dropped the clutch it was enough of a jolt to pop the back wheel out of the bog and put it back on all 4s. Only damage was a bent rear panhard which I was glad was the only damage could have been a lot worse.

I told my wife she isnt aloud near the drivers seat if she cant self recover haha. 3 weeks later she let me fit a PTO winch haha.

Its interesting how modifying things can have adverse effects, the Y60 came with a very low relative COG from the factory, this was obviously for a reason, the engineers did not intend for it to be lifted, different spring rates, etc

I can see why a small 30-40mm bodylift wouldn't be a bad idea on a SWB Patrol to gain some tyre space but also keep the relative centre of gravity low. So long as it didnt crack the body mounts.

Fair call on the LR, Although the 110 is the ultimate wheel base for a respectable handling rig, the 130 is not overly common here and the 90's are not seen in great numbers either. They also have a major weight advantage over a Nissan.
Jeep doesn't even enter the conversation. With the stupid little control arms on those it's a wonder they don't fall over turning in your drive . Seriously though, if you want a jeep to perform as half pie decent club rig, the first thing most do is biff all the factory shite out.

Nissan is not all about COG, the AS numbers on a swb must be insanely out of whack, you only have to watch one when climbing, the wheel hop in the front and rear squat is mental.

And them short and long Prado thingys, Toyota aren't they They got those stupid radius arms aswell aye. Interchangable?? not sure. Fact is, no factory setup is designed to do half the shit that we expect them to cope with

IMO MK Patrol is a good weight compromise if you want a solid front Nissan, a SWB w fibreglass roof comes in at well under 2t.

But then of course its back to leaf springs.

Which are simple & tough as balls and can be made to work (flex) way better than coils
