high idle/low running temp

Post by Mazuki »

Hi all , my g16a 16 valve powered escudos cold start idle is around 2000 rpm and takes around 10-15 minutes of round town driving before the the gauge will register and then one the temp reaches 1/4 the idle might drop down to normal idle speed. Temp generally never go's over 1/4 with on road driving.
Is the cold start adjustable? Do i need a lower temp theromsat? any help appreciated

Hi, I've got this problem too, that I'm hopefully about to fix soon. Apparently it is due to the air Idle control valve located in the throttle body. It gunks up with crap. Needs to be removed and cleaned. I'm about to tackle my lil beast today and hope to fix the problem.

If it takes that long to warm up I would be looking at the thermostat.

Thermostat may be stuck open, to check go for a short drive and feel the hoses if one cold and one warm it isn't stuck open , if both warm then get a new one,if that doesn't fix it blow the water lines that run thru the choke out with air compressor.

Think you got that backwards, if both hoses are warm it means the coolant is flowing around normally, if the bottom hose is cold it means the coolant isn't flowing through the radiator. 16-valve=EFI=no choke.

Short drive not enough to get to normal operating temp but enough to warm the water,so if both hoses are warm the thermostat is open but shouldn't be! most thermostats open about 85 degrees so a short trip won't get it to that temp.
And even efi cars have a choke its not like a carb choke its a module that water runs thru and reads the water temp have a look on the throttle body for two small water lines. depending on the state of your water system they can block up with rust and not read properly .
