PTO winch speed

Lots of threads on PTO's I know, but I want to know if I can speed up my winch to match wheel speed.....
Toyota 70 series with pto output.
I have an electric winch on front but will mid mount my (Nissan) pto at some stage.
Problem is that it's too slow in 1st gear and I really want (need) to be able to drive my wheels at the same time.
What I'm looking at is some type of reduction (step up) box right at pto output and then short shaft to the winch...
Any ideas anyone??

Two options
One. Replace sprocket gear in the winch to speed it up
Two. Gear box in between pto and winch
Pros and cons
One. Can be very expensive getting the gear made
Winch can end up feeding worm through thd housing
Winch becomes a lot less strong

Two. Winch stays strong but can get very hot
Transfurs a lit more load onto the pto unit with possible pushing the box off the side of its mounting
More moving parts creating more chance of breakage etc
Reasonablely easy to make a basic gear or chain operated gear box

Option two was my choice... might look at the suzy transfer case as the gearbox??

there is another option and is 2.1 I think from memory to 1 .. and I think the zuk xfer is 2 to 1.. so you can get .1 or so extra..lol

Not quite sure what your option is but I think I actually need anywhere up to a 4:1 increase...
4th gear gave me a line pull about the same as driving in 1st....

what im saying is explore your options.. there are better ones out there.. Anyway lada xfer is slightly faster then the zuk and about the same size..

had a mate who had a 1;3 ratio and it was quite close to his 35 muds but it ran out of power quite fast as well and he did a lot of double purchasing, especially when we did waitawhata in the middle of winter a few years back. he was concerned about the weight on the pto unit itself and refrained from giving it the full jandel because of this issue

but when he was just basicly just caught on diffs or lack of traction he did move fast, kept his co'oe (me) on his toes alright

Option 3:

Landcruiser PTO winch is geared differently to Nissan PTO winch.
Change the winch to a Landcruiser winch, it is faster and the added benefit is it is easier to rig up a remote free spool because of the lever and dog setup on the LC winch as opposed to the free wheel hub on the Nissan.
I do not know the exact speed difference between the two, but it is noticeable on the front of a Patrol.

I think you will find the winches themselves are the same ratio.. Its in the PTO unit or gearbox differences between the two that give the impression of speed differences...

the are different speeds. When first got my shorty had a Nissan pto on it. When I shortened the nose on it I swapped to a cruiser winch as I preferred the freespool setup. First time I used it there was a deffinate speed difference. Was couple years ago but from memory it was 20 sec faster to wind rope on at 1200rpm. (30mtrs).

Haha - This is why I asked... I knew there would be different options and opinions.
I want to stay with Nissan pto as I've already put a large cotton reel on so it will take 70 plus metres...
A small gearbox type thingy will be the go. I can also work out a dog type clutch for the freespool so all good.

it would certainly depend on where you are driving to ascertain your winch needs,
would think higher tyre than winch speed would aid clear in muddy conditions
